CRIME ON THE HOMESTEAD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

Do you think crime is on the increase in your country area or is it still all in the city?   Living in the country you would think crime, like breaking into houses, would be on the increase because the neighbors are so far from one another, that that chances for being seen are less.   I keep our doors locked even when we are home. It's just not like it use to be.

I keep my doors locked all the time too. Around here the farms are hit more often in the daytime when they think people are out working or gone. I haven't noticed an increase in our area though. Thankfully!

Ditto, cowgirlone. We always keep the doors locked. Pretty sad, but that's just the way it is these days. We always have the 1/2 ton parked out front, too, so it looks like someone is home all the time. That'll change shortly since DH has to store his semi closer to town and will need the truck to go back and forth.

We don't have much of a problem where I am in Maine. I do know that southern Maine has more crime, but all in all, Maine, N.H. and Vermont have very low crime rates. Maybe it's because we all keep loaded guns in the house :-)!!? We only lock our doors here if we're planning on being gone for the day. I'm sure though that eventually it will get worse!
