just a wondering,,,

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

just a wondering where everyone has been? Hasnt been too many posting, so just a wondering what going on?

Weather is still cool here,, was hoping for another warm spell,,, doesnt lok like Ill get one,, so I had to button up the hives for winter,,,meaning, wrap them in tar paper for insulation, though it really doesnt insulate, since its black, and tar,, it attracts ANY heat from the sun,, and "should" sccomplish the same thing I need it to do. Most beekeepers around here use tar paper. I needed to open them another time this year, to medicate, rotate supers and such,, but cant do that without it being at least 70.

other thatn that,, jsut been preping the house,, putting in storm windows, making sure the ones I opened in the summer is closed, cleaning up the yard for the plow when the snow really comes down.

had some the other day,, stuck too,,didnt last long, cause it turned to rain,, but was nice too look at, even though IM not ready for it. ( never really am )

I bought a fridge, stove and heater out of a travel trailer,, and IM going to install them in my sheds, fridge in the regular one,, the ehater and stove/oven in the honey house. That will give me my hot water and warmth when I need it. HAve a trailer I need to put a floor on, IM going to put some hives on it,, and use it for pollination. Have one customer lined up for next spring,, hopefully Ill get more.

Ive gone on loong enough,, whats been happening with you??

Don't suppose I'll be ready when it hits but I can only do so much unless I quit restin and drinin Iced Tea with Stevia.

Finished my pumphouse last week, got my old chevy 4 wheel pull truck tire replaced Friday. Fix'n to unloade it tomorrow, buy new place sticker [$78.00]. Seems the harder I work the more I find to do.

I hate to admit this before Almighty God and the entire forum readers- -but---I still haven't had the time to take pictures of the thingy I talked to ya'll about. Hopefully I'll get it done this week and email to ya'll. Anybody who wants to know---Me'n ole Stan are fix'n to fix a "bear zapper" for his bee gums.

Not much has been going on out here, except that it has pretty much been raining for the last week. I have spent most of today inside, baking and helping kids with their homework.

I DID get just a little work done several days ago, and my fingers are still sore! It seems that I have lost the calluses on my hands, and just pulling out a handful of grass that was growing where it didn't belong cut my fingers. That would not have happened a month ago: that grass wasn't particularly rank.

I believe we are in for a very long, VERY wet winter, as it hasn't stopped raining this month for the ground to dry out.

Just trying to get things done before winter arrives. I have to admit the more I look at the list the less I seem to accomplish-maybe it's just too overwhelming or else I need to get better organized. Today I had to go to town-Ughh for a few groceries and to check the house we're getting ready to remodel. All was well other than they're still working on those gas lines so the front yard is still plowed up. I need to figure out how to get them to dig up the side yard so then I'll have a garden area ready for the new renters. :)

I did have learn one interesting thing today, when I had some fence posts put in this summer it looks like we hit a spring! I know it's been rainy but there are depressions that have Never dried out and stay full of water now where they didn't before putting in the posts. While I was doing chores I finally figured out why certain areas are staying so wet, they're downhill from those fenceposts! Duh!- it took me 4 mos to figure it out!! I'm going to look in some back issues of CS & Backwoods, I faintly remember an article on capturing a spring. It would be nice since we have county water and if we can capture this it would cut down on the water bills.

My happy news is Tom will be coming home for Thanksgiving and is taking a weeks vacation so he'll be home for 10 days total. He hasn't been home since the 10th of September! At Christmas he's coming in on the 21st of Dec and staying until Jan1 It will be so nice to have him home and with enough time to actually enjoy our time together. Those weekend visits are nice but he doesn't get in until Saturday around 9am and has to leave Sun eve around 5 so it's not much time to do anything or go anywhere together. Well, I got wordy didn't I? LOL!! Have a great week; I won't be online much-have a bunch of running around to do and projects to complete.

Hey Stan! How bout "Bear tickler" or "bear waker-upper"?

Yeah the Plate sticker is a sticker they use instead of replacin the lic plates each year. Just go pay'm the $78 bucks and you get a litle sticker to put on the old, bent and beat up lic plate. REkon they have to have some more money to pay for their millionaire lifestyle!!

WEll-I've messed around about all I can this mornin. Spose I'd better get ready and hit the road. Gotta go fix our older boys van. Replace the t-stat and readjust the idle. I hate, loathe and despise those "Quadrajet" carbs. Don't even make good garbage. Oh well-- where is the old CArter AFB's of years gone by!!!

Ya'll stay warm and dry today. Bone chillin weather here today. old hoot. Matt.24;44

I don't think I have been as lethargic and lazy in my life as in the last month. I just can not seem to get a single project finished, or a few necessary ones started. I just amble along accomplishing diddy squat.

I was feeding apples to the horses the other morning, one missed the apple and bit into my thumb, right through my thumb nail. Ouchie! Now I'm walking wounded, and have an excuse! I really should be putting the wood into the new woodhouse so it can dry out nicely, or finish cleaning out the barn, or clean the basement, finish staining a door that has been waiting a year, on and on and on. It was the RIGHT thumb, the working hand. Gotta good excuse. LOL! !

Finally have had rain. One thing in life I detest is wading through muc on the farm and I find myself having to be grateful for the mud and muck. We had such a long and frightening dry spell this summer, that to complain of the muck would be downright ungrateful.

I put another layer of plastic on the greenhouse today.

I hung a fat piece of PVC pipe from the ridgepole, and braced 2 other pieces of PVC pipe to each side, then draped the plastic over all. Excess plastic was drawn together fore and aft to keep the heat in. Not a very tidy job, but it will do for now. Tomorrow I will weigh down the edges and fine-tune the thing, then finish moving in the greens before Wednesday nights predicted freeze.

This weekend I had big plans to tear out existing bathroom and remodel. Needed to replace a portion of floor too. Alas, I was struck, and I mean STRUCK, with a stomach virus. Not a pleasant weekend, but if you play Pollyanna's glad game (and we do here) we are glad the illness struck before I started the bath project. You don't want to be without a working bathroom when a bug bites. I survived, it's just that I never get sick, and I hate. Are you supposed to feel like your bones were crushed with a stomach virus? I guess the bath project has to wait till next weekend.
