Keeping the Old Testament Laws and festivals

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have a question pertaining to Christians keeping Old Testament Laws and Jewish Festivals and Feasts. Is this the New Testament way that Jesus Christ taught? (I am putting the question out to those Christians who may have any hint of why there is a new movement in the USA to keep the OT laws even though they may be Born Again.)

Hey Laurie! I've heard of some of this stuff that's considered by the "modern and enlightened" Christians as being part of our Salvation. Nonsense! Jesus came to die for our sins and that did away with our keepin the O.T. Law. We are to keep those parts of the Law that Jesus Christ carried over to the N.T. but they are not a requirement of our Salvation. We're livin under the Grace of Almighty God. Nobody could keep the Law anyhow so God had to make another way. He did -through Jesus Christ.

I think this new movement is just another attempt for "man" to work out his own Salvation. If that's the case then Christ wasn't needed.

Believe I'll just stick to the orginal plan God chose to replace the law with. Hope this has answered your question. Also hope I haven't left anything out. old hoot. Matt.24:44

NOWHERE in Scripture does it say that the laws were 'done away with'. i do not in any wise, nor do my spiritual brothers & sisters, try to earn salvation through works. Scripture does plainly state that if we LOVE Him, we are to keep the laws. It is not to justify ourselves, but out of love. You love your parents.. did you not want to please them when you were a child? Also, the laws are not 'Jewish'. 'Jew' is only a shortened, hybridized version of for the tribe of Judah, only ONE of Jacob's (renamed Israel) twelve sons. All the tribes kept the laws. 1Jo 3:4 "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." (KJV) Now, we all know that Adam & Eve sinned. They broke the law. At that time, the law had been only spoken to them, but they knew it, and they were told to obey it. All through the time from Adam until Moses' calling to lead The Eternal's people, the law was only spoken, but known, and passed on from generation to generation, so the children would learn as well. The law became written during the time Moses made his first journey to the mountain, which tablets he broke in anger when he saw the children of Israel committing idolatry. So, back up the mountain he went, and The Eternal had to rewrite them on new tablets. (He had also written the original set, with His own finger.) It saddens me, to see how so many just want to throw His precious words out because they just don't want to be obedient. Obedience is not a negative thing, but something one does out of love and respect. There will be posts after this, i'm sure, to attempt to discredit His laws yet even more. But because others felt that they had a right to tell you that the law is 'nailed to the cross' -- which theory Scripture does not endorse or even hint at, but rather it's another twisting that Peter warned true followers about -- i also have every right to support what Scripture DOES say. i ask you to PLEASE check out every thing that is said by any person. DO NOT just believe what anyone (including myself) says. Search the Scriptures. Prove ALL things. James, chapter 2, speaks of faith with works. The works are the keeping of the laws. Revelation 19:8 " 8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints." (KJV); Psalm 119:172 "My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness." (KJV); Revelation 22:14 "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." (KJV) Please check things out for yourself. When He asks you why you didn't keep His laws, will you be able to tell Him that they were 'all of a sudden' no good? useless? a burden? His law is a delight to those who love Him -- to those who seek to throw them away, they are called a burden. They still seek their own ways, and rebel against The Most High. Your Saviour NEVER nailed the laws to His stake, what He did do away with, was the death penalty for breaking them. If someone breaks one of MAN'S laws, he has to pay a penalty. So, after he has paid, is it okay for him to go break that law again? Was that law 'done away with', just because he already paid once? No, of course not, as we hear of 'repeat offenders' daily. The laws are still there. And if we think it's wise to keep man's laws, how much more The Father's? Should we not show Him all the more love and respect? He gave us those laws to LIVE, to BE BLESSED. Read Deuteronomy 28, for one. It also tells us what would happen if we disobey. 1 John 2:3-6 " 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." (KJV)

i would like to say, that when i asked about this site, i had no idea what i would find; i thought it might be more like the homesteading site. Right there, at the top, was a question about Scripture, and the reply. Is it not my obligation to share what i know? i'm no less fit than anyone else to read Scripture and to counter WITH TRUTH what His Word actually says, against the age-old lie perpetrated by satan in the garden of Eden that no one has to obey the laws. That lie is still being perpetrated upon unsuspecting innocent sheep. That said, i don't imagine i'm welcome to this forum any more, because i have spoken against the false doctrine that the world wants to cling to. So be it. i said beforehand, that i did not know what i would find here. So be it. i do ask that He would grant that your eyes be opened to His truth, and for His peace to be upon you, my friend.
