My son (high school) is doing a research project on the "power of suggestion". Could someone please recommend some good web sites that he could refer to to find more info on this subject.

"Suggestion" is a word that was first used (I think) in 19th-century France to describe the effects we now call hypnosis. There is a very good account of these events in a chapter of Ian Hacking's book _Rewriting the Soul_.

There is a classic article (I think by James ward) in the online 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica at http://9.1911encyclopedia.org/S/SU/SUGGESTION.htm which summarizes the major issues in the late 19th century. There do not appeart to be any current professionally-based web pages.
