floor space for turkeys

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

We have Narragansett turkeys that need their own space and we are unable to find dimensions for a coop per square foot per turkey. We would appreciate any info. you might have. Thank you. karen

Karen...I don't know about Narragansett turkeys, but we keep about 6 white or bronze turkeys a year. They spend the first three months or so in a 4x6 ft. draft-free room. After that they go outside into a 8x10 ft. pen with a "lean-to" for shelter. They do very well with this set up! We only use medicated feed for the first 4 to 6 wks. Then we switch to plain layer pellets with some cracked corn as a supplement. I've found if we use grower feed they grow way too fast for their legs and joints.
