The Player King and Lucianus : LUSENET : Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet : One Thread

If Hamlet asks the Player King to study a speech of some dozen or sixteen lines for insertion into The Murder Of Gonzago, then surely it should of been him playing Lucianus...?

Ah, but the Player King was also head of the acting troupe, so all deals must go through him. Sort of a "head of the family" thing.

Ie., Hamlet's 'yous' in his questions to the First Player at the end of II.ii are referring generically to the whole of the troupe, not just to the First Player.

Of course we don't know for sure that Lucianus' speech was the one that Hamlet wrote for the playlet, which is not fully performed on the night.
