"T SPRINGS" nameboard on Atkinson NC depot

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Regarding the continuing mystery of the "T SPRINGS" nameboard affixed to the Cape Fear & Yadkin Valley (ACL) depot in Atkinson NC, it's my belief this may be part of the nameboard from the town of SpouT Springs, also located on the CF&YV but further north. Nothing else seems to make sense, not to say that this makes much itself. Does anyone care to weight-in on my theory? Thanks.

Daniel, according to my notes the depot is located northwest of Hwy. 11/53 on Beatty's Bridge Road, maybe two miles north. Going north out of town, you'll see it set back on the left among farming buildings and a mobile home. It is unpainted wood and is being used for storage. Somewhere on the Q&A page is another thread on Atkinson with many responses. This may tell when the tracks through town were taken up. But I do know that the last passenger service on this line- a mixed- ended in Oct. 1951, and the line itself still showed in-place on a SCL 1971 system map.

Mr.Venditti,

Where in Atkinson is the station you are referring to? I have been through there many times, and I think I may know the building you are referring to. Do you know when the railroad was taken up through the town?

Sincerely, Daniel T. Edwards
