Stan, Don't worry about it, I figured you just got busy with work & the farm. but after sitting for so long was the fresh sage still OK or did it rot? LOL It was strong when fresh so I can imagine what it smelled like if it started to decompose. :o) If the fresh didn't survive the trip I'll send you some more. I have tons of it-well not tons but a lot!! When I took it to the post office it was smelling up the whole place even after being triple wrapped. This years is much more aromatic than normal, must be full of essential oils due to the weather. I have the candle on order but I'm still waiting. Like I said it sometimes takes 2 mos to get them-a real 'hot' item -Hehe When I send the candle I will also send you some other gourd & unusual veg seeds that I've got. There may only be 5 or 6 seeds of each type- most of them only have about a dz to start so I'll split them. I don't really need a dozen of each type of plant. Can you grow persimmons in MI, want some seeds? My friend gave me some ripe persimmons so I could start some trees from seed, I found out there's quite a few seeds in each one & I've got 7 of the fruit so a lot of seed.

Down here I usually wait until it freezes but I've got mine on fences so they aren't laying on the soil. I'll look in a book on gourd crafting I've got, it may have some infor.

Stan, I grew up in Michigan and I hadn't heard of persimmon either until I moved to Indiana. Persimmon pudding is a popular fall dessert, imo it tastes like a very rich and moist gingerbread. Yummy!

Re: Persimmon - - I also volunteer persimmon seeds ( or persimmons) to anyone who wants to pay the postage.

Celtia - - Do you have the recipe for that persimmon dish? ?

How does one know the persimmons are totally RIPE? The one I bit into yesterday was nice and yellow/brown, but it left that gawdawful chalk inside my mouth. Yuck.

Granny, I don't know how to tell when they're ripe. I just buy persimmon pulp in the store so I haven't had to deal with the actual fruit.

I have the persimmon pudding recipe at home and I'm at work right now. I probably won't be on-line this weekend but I'll try to post it next week.

Granny, I think persimmons are one of those things that almost seem over-ripe when they are best. Pretty mushy. Like gooseberries. I don't really care for them that much but my youngest adores them, in fact she was just wandering around with a half a shirtful, munching away. Wanted to take some to the new neighbor boy (Heath, named for Heath on Big Valley..remember that?), he's never had them. Speaking of the new neighbors....those boys have been hangin' around a lot, I'm not sure if it's the farm experience or my flaxen-haired farm girl they are more interested in! What was it like to be 11-12-13ish? I did however cringe when Lauren casually pointed out that buck goats love to drink their own pee, I wonder if they relayed that and other "useful lore" I may not have been privy to, to their parents over dinner? ;-)

I'm looking forward to the recipe as well, maybe I'll like that better?!
