Hey yo! I live on Mangels Street ( the 500 block, man )and I was, like, wondering if anyone could give some info on my house or area. I heard that 538 Mangels was the last house on the block until the freeway was built. I'd like some info on that, too. Please answer me, man!

Answers

For starters-- your house is in Assessor's Block 3065 or 3087. If your street number is odd 3065; even 3087.

The tract of land dates back to the 1780s when it was part of Rancho San Miguel.This part of the Tract was acquired in the 1800s by Adolph Sutro. After he died-- and after a court battle-- the land was developed in the early years of the Twentieth Century.

About Mangels street. My own suspicion is that it points to Anna Mangels Spreckels wife of Claus and Mother of the Brothers.

Update! I heard that when they built the freeway, some houses were moved to different locations. Please explain this, too!
