Medieval and Renaissance Asylums

Can anyone help me find information on asylums in Europe from the medieval period to about the 1580's?

I have found a relative wealth of information about the Bethlem Hospital in England for this period, and I am given to understand that there were madhouses in Spain (Seville and Valencia) and the Netherlands during the 15th and 16th centuries, but I have no idea where to look for information that confirms this and/or provides historical details.

Any hel pwould be greatly appreciated...

Start with Gregory Zilboorg's A History of Medical Psychology and The Medical Man and the Witch During the Renaissance--he should at least give some valuable clues. Then head for similar subject entries in the WorldCat.
