I need Hi 8 and Digital 8 advice!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shooting DV Films : One Thread

I am a high school teacher at a rather underfunded high school. I have just come in this year and have really only worked with Beta before. My principal wants me to submit a proposal for HI 8 cameras and one Digital 8 Camera. I am going to get a little greedy too and see if he will ever consider a Sony PD100 for DV. Anyway, I know nothing about Hi 8 cameras and could use the help. I want the cameras to have enough bells and whistles for the students to be able to take the camera off auto and manually adjust various controls.

Thank for all of your help.

Well Ryan, from what I know about HI 8s is that most of them are for beginers so they don't have very many manual controls, but your best bet is to go to a store that has them on display and check them out, because even if they do have the manual settigns you like, they might be hard to function like my old dcr-trv130, you roll the little wheel that's in the back of the camcorder. It's not very convenient. Also, post your message here http://www.dv.com/forums/showTopics.jhtml? sid=1&fid=2 and im sure the guys there will know of a good HI 8 for you. -Matt

Go DV, easier to edit and take control of.
