Alexander's father was Philip II of Makedon, his mother was Epirote. The Argead line brought much of "Greek" culture to Makedon (which today is in northern Greece but in the ancient world was a separate kingdom and "Greece" did not exist as an entity but as independent city-states) However, the Argeads themselves (the family line on Philip's side) were transplants to Makedon.
