looking for fresh goat milk in DC area

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

When I was young, my mother fed my baby brother and sister with goat milk. They had all kinds of feeding problems, and goat milk was the only thing that worked for them. Now I've got my own baby, who also has feeding issues. I have no idea how to find goat milk. I know we can get the canned stuff in the grocery store, but I wouldn't feed that to anyone, certainly not my sweet baby. Is anyone here in the Washington DC area? Or do you know of a way I can find some good goat milk?

Thanks.

I don't know about DC, but in Kentucky I can get goats milk in the quart size from the refrigerated dairy section. It's usually with the soy milk and creamers, near the regular milk. I found it at Winn Dixie and Super Wal-Mart. It's high priced, though.

You may want to try the goat lists on Yahoo. There are many! Also some are regional/district oriented. Here is an url to start with.

http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=ADGA+Goats&submit=Search

If that doesn't bring you to the right page, just go a "group" search, for Goats, ADGA districts, I think you are in 3?

And here is the url for ADGA, it has a listing of clubs by state.

Check out VSDGA.org too - the Virginia dairy goat organization.

My doctor (a homeopath) recommended that I feed my infant goat milk and carrot juice (about 1 to 1). She loved it and it has become her favorite drink. She is now 17 months and is doing quite well. I used meyenburg goat milk although fresh is supposed to be more nutritious (the pasturizing kills the enzymes). I have yet to find fresh, through, so I am interested in anything you may find.
