Watermelon seed tea for U.Calculi???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

I was pseaking to the breeder who I purchased my goats from last week about U.Calculi. I mentioned purchasing some Ammonium C. She said a vet told her to gather up watermelon seeds and dry them. Then when needed, boil them into a tea and give to a wether to dissolve his stones. Sounds too easy to me. Every hear of this?

If the wether already has stones you don 't want to waste any time experimenting. Now if the wether did not have stones yet, it would be another story...

My wether isn't showing any trouble, I just wondered if anyone else had ever heard of this, especially since a vet familiar with goats gave the advice.

Thanks Rebekka.

Haven't heard of the watermelon seeds, but I've used Fruit Fresh on a buck who had UC and had to have the tip of his hoosiwatsit cut off. Drenched him with a tablespoon of the Fruit Fresh dissolved in 1 ounce of water 3 times a day for the first week, once a day for the next, and then after that I started adding an acidifyer made from citrus acid into his water. He's been fine ever since. If watermelon seeds have a high acid content, might work in the same manner.
