hitting piano keys

whenever i hit a piano key with my pinkie finger, my ring finger will automatically hit the key which it is resting on, and vice versa...is this a common problem, and how can i prevent this? thanks!

Try some finger exercises like this one: starting on middle C, and starting with your thumb, play CDEF GFGF GFED C. The fingering for this is 1234 5454 5432 1. Repeat this exercise, but start it on D..then on E...then on F...etc. Invent exercises in which your 5th and 4th fingers have to play independently of each other. Good luck!
