Folks, I am tired of the server troubles here, no doubt most of you are too. Over the next few days the threads here will be cross posted to the Hostboard forum found HERE. If you have a thread you like I suggest you C+P it to the new forum, I cannot say how many I will find time for, if YOU like it, move it there. The password will change here one day, and that will be that, another greenspun forum gone, but, hopefully, many greenspun oldtimers still in touch.

Sadly, this place is about to go the way of the Dodo. . .

No, I'm not fooling around with the forum Abie. Maria, I don't know what the problem is, "keep trying" is all I can offer as help.

I've had many complaints about folks stealing handles, that can't happen at Hostboard. About nameless trolls posting under a new handle each time, that can still happen at Hostboad, but it's a pain in the ass for the troll. About the fact that this place cannot get new members while it is passworded, new members can post at Hostboard without needing my approval. This place was created because HTML vandals were making the WWW impossible to use, the HTML at Hostboard has been dis-abled. I don't mean to be a fascist dictator, but I am going to give the move to Hostboard an honest try, if you want to post there great, if not, well, I will miss you.

If you want to set up and post to another forum on Greenspun go for it. I would not feel in any way offended. I will give y'all a fair amount of time to get used to the idea, or to make other plans, or to get a name or two for yourself over at Hostboard. The issue that you clearly can't understand is that the Administration of this forum will do nothing whatsoever to stop someone from imitating me. It is for that reason, among many others, that I will never post on this forum ever again for any reason ever. Those who know me are, of course, able to reach me at my secret location, which I would tell you except for the fact that it is a secret. ;<)

I remember the old days of the Yourdan Forum, before Phil Greenspun took over. We were using DEC VT-100 terminals connected to a VAX minicomputer system as our communication mechanism. Posts were stored on tape drives which broke down frequently. It may not have been the most reliable system, but it sure was faster than HTML!! ;<) When Phil Greenspun moved it to his server, my minions and I predicted its ultimate demise, which is, of course, happening at this very moment. Yourdan wasn't too keen on the idea either, not that he had much choice in the matter. He kept complaining about how slow everything was and Phil just kept saying "Shut up shut up shut up!!" It was really a fun time, just me and Ed and Phil shooting the breeze. Then I told Ed about possible problems with the Y2K rollover and he completely freaked out. Said he was going to write a book about it. I didn't believe him then. Sure got that one wrong!! ;<)

Once Yourdan's book took off, all the doomers and pollies started showing up and nothing was ever the same again. I remember old Howie and DrizzleHead and how they used to try to outdo each other by seeing how many uses they could come up with the word "fuck" in a single post. And Crazy Sally who kept asking what time it was. And Dodo and Mick and Ernestine. I still can't believe they were really going to bungee jump off the top of the Empire State Building. Mick didn't even live near New York!! ;<)

It's sad really, what with all the intelligent people gone. Well, except for me, of course. ;<)))) Perhaps I will eventually encounter someone with qualifications at least somewhat approaching mine. I wonder what Steve Heller is doing these days.
