Frederic A. Delano, II, obit : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

While perusing the obituaries in this morning's (Sunday, August 4, 2002) Florida Times-Union, I noticed the name Frederic Adrian Delano II and wondered if he were a relation of Lyman Delano, chairman of the ACL's board for many years. Indeed he was- Frederic was the son of Lyman and Leila Delano, born in Wilmington and raised in Barrytown, New York. He died July 31. To continue, he attended Faye School in Massachusetts and Avon Old Farm School in Connecticut and graduated from the General Motors Institue of Technology in Cleveland with a specialty in Diesel Engineering. From 1932 to 1934 he worked for Winton Engine Co. During WWII he served in the Navy, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander. From 1946 to 1960 he worked for the ACL, leaving to form his own business, Delano & Co. in Jacksonville. Preceded in death by his wife, Thalia Holmes Delano, he is survived by two daughters, Daphne Delano Broun of Jacksonville and Diana Delano Gardner of Palm Beach Gardens; sisters, Jane Delano Ridder and Margaret Delano Paul; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Services will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 5. His father Lyman was the nephew
