I would like to know if it is possible to convert a MPEG4 file into a MPEG1 file so I can make a VCD.

Thanks for your help

Yes it is absolutely possible to do that. With TMPG you can convert MPEG4 to MPEG1 with ease...you can even make widescreen movies fullscreen, just takes some getting used to the program. you can find TMPG at http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main2.html in the download section.

TMPGEnc doesnt work and says that the avi file is unsupported.

I have had the same error message "avi not supported" , however you do need the codec that supports that particular avi to be installed on your system. Try downloading the lasted Divx codecs and see how you go, I think that there is ver 5 avalible now.

You need the xvid codec, divx5 codec won't work. Find it @ www.xvid.org

yes, tmpgenc DOES work for this purpose; have done this several times (different files each time) already, decent results as you might expect.
