2 month old Muscovies for sale

greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

I am up to my eyeballs in muscovy ducklings!! They have the most unusual color pattern-most are black & white speckled fading to grays. If anyone is interested I'd be willing to drive to Cinncinati or Louisville or Nashville to meet & swap. If you're closer to Memphis we can arrange for Tom to take them back with him when he comes home the next time. I can e-mail pictures if you're interested. The price is $6.00 each or I'll make a better deal if you want more than 15. KA

Kathy if you still have some in a couple of months i would be interested.I do like muscovys! Ed

Hi Ed, I think they're really neat ducks. I'll probably still have some in a couple months, muscovies aren't as popular in my area for some reason. My big drake follows me everywhere 'hissin' & bobbing his head, but I've figured out he likes me and wants to see what I'm doing. My hens are so cute-all are black & white and have gentle personalities except when setting then they turn into the ducks from H*LL! I had 38 duckling hatch out of two nests-two hens decided to use the same nest & I never expected them to hatch out that pile of eggs but one day there was 34 ducklings under those two hens. Now all three hens take care of all the ducklings and they follow whoever is closest. I also have 3 Chinese Geese, 5 African Geese, 6 rouens,4 Khaki Campbells & 2 fawn Runners plus 30+ chickens. Can you tell I love poultry? :)

Yeah darn, wish some of y'all lived closer. I've got some nice does I could part with.

-- Patty (SycamoreHollow@aol.com), August 01, 2002.

Patty , what state are you in ?

-- SM Steve (Unreal@home.com), August 01, 2002.

I'm in Missouri, Steve. You?

-- Patty (SycamoreHollow@aol.com), August 01, 2002.

I'm in eastern Tennessee, the smokey mountains.

-- SM Steve (Unreal@home.com), August 01, 2002.

Ah! Now that we have established you are a good clip away, bummer. What kind of goats are you looking for? Maybe I know someone..?

-- Patty (SycamoreHollow@aol.com), August 02, 2002.

Patty , I'm really trying to get rid of 2 hogs and the price In east Tennessee for hogs has hit a record low. A baby pig just weaned will almost bring a higher price than a 150lb hog will right now. That's if you can sell the hogs . Baby pigs are selling good . I didn't like pork products from the store and thought if I raised them myself I might like pork. But after bucthering one last month. I found it still taste like pork. So since I can't sell them, and I won't eat them, I end up just feeding them and caring for something that has little value to me . So I've been trying to trade them for does of any type of goat . Meat or milk goats , it wouldn't matter. I'd even trade for pygmy goat does. I wouldn't want bucks cause I had 8 born here this spring. 7 will be enough meat for the winter and one I'll keep for breeding this fall. anyone who's interested , I'll be here.

-- SM Steve (Unreal@home.com), August 02, 2002.

Wow Kathy! Save some of them ducklings for me. Any chance you have a solid or near solid gray one, ( blue)? I still haven't forgotten the donkey, and cinncinati would be a good location to meet.

There are so many good goats in this area Steve I'd be happy to bring ya some for the pigs - - - I'd be coming 81 through Va to 64 heading west.

I have beaucoup baby chicks, ( mutts - but the roosters are usually gorgeous) to trade too ! ! Poultry auctions are down due to the Avian flu in the east. The mini donkey and dexter cattle populations are fast getting out of control too! ! LOL

Hi

Steve, to get a pork that doesn't taste porky, butcher it before they are old enough to breed. That really flavors the meat. Also if you feed it veggies scraps, bread scraps and leftover milk(this is a biggy), your meat will be leaner and much, much milder. The less fat covering it's body the better, unless you render it down to lard.

We have butchered pork in the 6-9 month range and find them perfect. If you feed them pig grain they gain too fast, and most of it turns to fat. Hope this helps someone. On another note there's fresh snow on the glacier this morning and it feels like fall is here. Getting the firewood up side of the house because I'm sure we'll be using it soon. Anne, up here in northern BC

Granny, so far I can't say that any will be blues, they are just feathering with a variety of patterns- I'd never seen speckled muscovies but I've got some now. :) I know they're pure since the only breeding age ducks we had at the time of this hatch were muscovies. The drake is a gorgeous black with green & some purple feathers, the hens are cute little gals all are black & white. Two of the ducklings came out white with just a spot of dark grey on their heads, the rest run the gamat of patterns & amounts of color. I'll try to get some pics & e-mail them to you, they still have some 'fuzz' but the patterns are getting pretty evident. Cinncinnati would work, I'll just bring a friend to keep me company & maybe we can do a little shopping while we're in the BIG CITY :) I'd just need a week or so notice so I can arrange care for my other critters and board the dogs at the kennel. The kennel likes a weeks notice but they're super with my old dogs. Unfortunately, I had to find a home for Archie, it broke my heart but without a companion he was an unhappy donkey and I didn't want that for him, so I found a nice couple with 7 Jennies and now he's a happy donkey. LOL He's only about 8 miles away so I get to visit him which makes it a little easier. Talk to you soon, KA

Anne , I think I'm just hooked on goat meat , I also don't eat beef, too oily. Granny Hen , I'd like to trade my hogs for some goats . Should I e-mail you ? In case I have the choice , I like goats that have a shinny goat , I'd prefer disbudded ( no horns )if possible and although I'd like ones with a stocky body ,I'd like to avoid the Boar goats , their meat is usually fatty , and the taste to me isn't the same as spanish , milk breed or milk breed / cross types. I figured I'd let you know some qualities I prefer in case you had a large seclection of goats to choose from. I just need females , which I'd use for breeders. Thanks

Hi Stacy, I'm in Kentucky but my husband works and lives near Memphis,TN. I will have muscovies, khaki campbells, some crosses between khaki campbells & rouens and possibly runner/campbell crosses. I also have african & chinese geese. If you ever want any ducklings or goslings we can arrange for a transfer somewhere near the TN/AR border. I have a digital camera & can get you pics when the little ones hatch. I'll post when my poultry starts setting so anyone who's interested in young ones can contact me. Have a good Holiday,

Also did you have any more ckickens for sale? How much do you get a piece for them? Thanks for taking the time to read what I had to say. Kristie

Hi. I am seeking a few (up to three) African Geese for my farm. I have one who just lost his mate this spring (another male, there were three but the female passed on 4 years ago) and we don't think he will make it alone through a Upstate NY winter with out a companion or a flock. Of course there are the goats and rabbits and us people, but we are not a replacement for another feathered friend. He has been so blue...if anyone knows of African Geese for sale in Upstate NY or close by....please help : (

Green Blessings, Susun Weed ps. come visit me at www.susunweed.com for 400+ pages of womens health wit and wisdom and of course to see me and my goaties : ))
