I have an old golf cart to, i am working on changing mine to be cool to. If you want to make it a go cart, take the body of the frame if possible and try to shape your own body. If you want to make it faster do the following: If it has a gas engine already try to find the govenor on the cart and take that off, also increase engine size. If it is electric take out the batteries and the rear end(rear axel) Then you need to build a subframe and install the new axel and motor. I suggest small atv axel system and bigger motor. Don't make it too heavy.

to change it over u must strip it down to the frame or the wheels and build up i would use angle iron or something light it is just like maken a riden lawn mower in to a go cart

a bigger motor will not make it faster at all. it would only make it alot stronger. with bigger wheels it will go faster but it will not be at all strong. it has 8 inch wheels but with 12 inch wheels it will haul ass only on level ground. also you can not put any other engine in because they are not interchangeable and cannot be changed out so dont even try it. you could also get hi-speed gears but this shit is a very lot of money. nobody here knows what the fuck there talking about so dont listen to them.take off the govener and connect the 2 cables with a twisty

Actually, changing the engine will make it faster, even with the original wheels. I bought an old three wheeler and rebuilt the 350 cc 4 cycle. I mounted the engine and transmission under the seat sideways. Then i put in a solid axil with a sprocket and made it chain driven. That is a lot of work though. You can also buy upgraded cc engines that will mount directly in the place of the old engine. They have engines for these up to 25 horsepower.

Where do I find the govenor on the engine, and exactly how do I remove it -- what two wires do I twist together??

I have an EZGO TXT, my motor blew so i dropped an Arctic Cat 440cc engine with 50hp in it, with some minor mods. This thing flies, does about 55 mph and will ride a wheelie all the way up to 55.

drop a 450 big block in it and watch what it does

None of you guys no what your talking about. Listen to me people. To make a go cart go to the dump and ask for a old lawn mower engine, Fix the turbines and put some oil in the cilinders so it dont' rust. And then hook up a gas peddal and then push it to go. Nobody know's what there talking about on here but me. TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM PEOPLE.

if ur golf cart is gas i know how to overhaul it it goes bout 45- 50 with regular slick tires it will spin the tires even when you go 20 you can hit the gas and they will spin atv tires will pop a wheelie hell yea if you drop a bigger engine it will go faster but if you think putting a 4 wheeler engine is too cmplicated then overhaul gas or put a 11hp torque electric motor in it then it would go bout 35 i have a txt with a grizz 660 it goes bout 60 and yes it does work but it took me a year and i have a custom lift witrh 28 inch vampires and a stereo system you just gotta know what youre doing

I have just brought an old golf cart with a m8 (for u yankees thats mate) of mine. We have great thoughts of what to do with it - a huge stereo system with nice amp and sub, and we were thinking of putting a new brace and cutting out the other panels where the motor is, we are not sure yet but we wanted to put a little 3 cylinder engine in there, i do kno my way around cars but im not sure if i would need a new transmission with it and even if the engine will fit in there??? Has any1 tried replacing the petrol engine carts??? If so sum help would b nice!!!

-- john chimin (sadadar_afk@yahoo.com), April 14, 2004.

Yes, about that peddle thing, does that work on an electric golf cart? Or just gas? If you could please tell me in detail about this modification i would be greatly appreciated. Plz describe more.

p.s.- i never knew that so many other people would respond about their experiences in making a golf cart go faster
