Anyone else listen to John Prine? I just love his stuff. Any other favorite out-of-the-way artist you all like or could recommend?

I love John Prine. Especially "Paradise". Any blue Grass or folk music does it for me.

I listen to DVX radio outside knoxville so I'm sure I've heard his music if he's Blue Grass. I'm just not good at placing names with music. Now when it comes to Blue-Grass 2 of my favorite artist are Jerry Garcia on banjo and David Grissam on madolin. One album "Old n in the way ,I think it's called , is a classic.Even some old hillbillies who've heard this at Roys Records in Maryville couldn't believe these boys were from Sanfrancisco.

Taterbug, I just picked up Prine's new one, "In Spite of Ourselves". It's great. All the songs are duets with female artists. Old country songs. He sings 3 or 4 of them with Iris DeMont. She sang "Our Town", the final song on Northern Exposure. I thought I had recognized her voice, but had to look it up to see where. :)

Steve, Prine is hard to put a label on. He's kind of quirky. Some of his songs remind me of a southern Dillan, some are rock, some country. On "The Missing Years", he sings with Sprinsteen to Carlene Carter. It's a good one too!

I only listen to music when driving(the mountains block the radio signals) so I don't listen to music at home.I'll keep an ear open for Jonh Prine .If I like his sound I'll end up wanting to see a live performance. When it comes to music, I usually depend on someones recomendation to take interest in a performer. Thanks,Annie,Taterbug.

Back in the 1970s, Prine used to play at the Earl of Old Towne in Chicago and I always liked stopping in for dinner and listening to him perform.m He alternated with Steve Goodman.

Every saturday afternoon from noon till 4pm CST on WXPR there is a wonderful program called: Brother Bill's Bluegrass Show. WXPR can be found in the internet, but my connection or computer is too slow to be able to listen to it when I am in MN.

Last sunday, I took my guitar to Springstead, Wisconsin for a Bluegrass jam. For an hour and a half, it was just Brother Bill and myself singin and picking songs...finally some professional people arrived...they were charging $5/person for non musicians which I thought was pretty steep for listening to us.

I like Stoney Lonesome, Art Stevenson and HIghwater, Lost and Found, and on MP3.com there are some free downloads from Swedish bluegrass bands who are really from Sweden and perform in Europe...my favorite is the Lonesome Mountaineers. Let me know if you need an address to get there and I can forward the MP3 location to your email address.

Yes absolutely I listen to John Prine. I am a singer/songwriter/musician and always looking for new tunes. I love the Grateful Dawg documentary with Garcia and Grissam. I am looking for the lyrics to a tune called "Jenny Jenkins" off the "Not for kids only" album.
