The best way to find an answer is to consult Allport's textbook entitled Personality, first published in 1937, with at least one later edition. There are unique features to Allport's theory, which is in the personalist tradition of Wilhelm Stern, including a dynamic definition of personality and a discussion of functional autonomy of motives. You might also find a discussion in Hall & Lindzey's classic overview, Theories of Personality, or in an article on Allport in an encyclopedia of psychology. Allport gave considerable attention to meaning and religious issues as well, some of which are summarized in his book The Individual and His Religion (1950).
