Train Whistle

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

I purchased a train whistle (steam whistle) at an antique show this past weekend in Syracuse, NY. It has five pipes (similar to a pipe organ)at five different levels.

On the bottom of the whistle it says: S. Mintz, 705 Scottsdale, Westminster, MD

Can you tell me anything about it?

Thanks for your help.

Donna

These whistles are not steam whistles. They were made to be blown by mouth or no more that 10lbs of air.they are made from aluminum and were sold in railroad magazines back in the 70s and 80s. Ihad two that I threaded for a pipe fitting but i blew one up by using to much air pressure. The other I still haveand blow it once and a while.price new for these were about 12.00 dollars.
