Results from the state cross country meet - Saturday, November 9 Although the girls team did not qualify for state, Kiah Vernon represented the team at the meet by virtue of her 6th place finish at the Region 5AA meet two weeks ago. She ran exceptionally well, finishing in 11th place overall. This was her best time of the year as she moved up from about 30th place early in the race.

Our boys have worked very hard all year under the very able coaching of Mr. Darden. The many miles paid off as they beat everyone except Weslyan to finish 2nd overall in the state AA competition. This is the best finish in recent memory and all members of the team ran very well. Nick Stephens and Chris Carpenter cracked the top 10 overall and received medals for their efforts.

GOOD LUCK to the fleet footed Grady X-C team who goes to state on Saturday! You guys have trained hard and are prepared to run a fabulous race. Your group really illustrates that X-C is a TEAM sport! We will be cheering for Kia too, good luck everyone!

In spite of a last minute change in venue and time, we managed to get all our team members together for the state qualifying meet. Emily Thornton took the ACT in the morning, then drove to Northgate High with her mother. Rebecca Tolmach and Jane Zamarripa left shortly after the race for soccer games. Amelia Godfrey and Rachel Kearns chose to run with the team instead of playing in their soccer games.

The boys ran first and after a conservative start, worked themselves into control of the race by the second mile. Four of the team placed in the top 10 overall and the team won the championshp by a comfortable margin.

The girls were running in the toughest region field in the state this year. They ran times fast enough to qualify for state in any of the past four years, but did not finish as one of the top four teams, so will have to watch the state meet from the sidelines this year. Kiah Vernon gave us all a hugh thrill as she battled two other girls for the last individual qualifying spot. The three ran the final 300 meters shoulder to shoulder, then Kiah managed to sprint ahead over the final 10 meters for 6th place. She will represent Grady at Carrollton in two weeks.

Complete results will be posted on the internet at www.gatfxc.com . Following are the unofficial finishes for our team.
