I haven't lost a penny in the stock market (what with real estate being where I invest, with T-bills as a parking place). But for those of you who have lost in the stock market, if you don't realize that you have been primarily fucked by the Republicans, well, you sort of desrve it.

Well, I may deserve it by being in the Market at all, but market dynamics are driven by fear and greed and are totally unpredictable.

Do you think the real estate market will go up forever? Get out while you can! Universal deflation is coming!

-- (lars@indy.net), July 13, 2002.

Lars, market dynamics can also be caused by cooked books.

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 13, 2002.

The market will crash because of Y2K. Then all the pollies will die.

-- (stupid@doo.mer), July 13, 2002.

Stupid:

I don't think you really know! Y2K destroyed the world; this is the Matrix.

I disagree with you Peter; it wasn't because of the repubs, that the market has gone down. That thinking couldn't be any further from the truth. The politicians have no control on where the money goes. As Lars points out, it's more emotion and hype than anything else. We're now seeing the results of the .com bubble bursts.

I've invested in the market for over twenty years and I'm still ahead of where I might have been if I invested everything in real estate. Over the twenty years (even with Black Monday, the crash in Oct 87 and the recent downturn), I've seen 10% roi. The real estate has only brought about 7% roi for my personal investments.

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), July 15, 2002.

Maria, you say the politicians have no control over where the money goes. The politicians do have control of regulations, including making them so sloppy (and so trusting in the accounting industy's proper policing of itself) as to invite fraud and book-cooking for those inclined. Does the name Phil Gramm of Texas have any meaning for you?

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 15, 2002.

Maria,

What type of real estate have you invested in?

-- (looking for @ helpful. hints), July 15, 2002.

Looking, I've invested in both commercial and residential real estate. Commercial offers probably the most profitable investment but residential is easier to find.

Peter, politicians had nothing to do with the flood of the dot coms. Yes they can regulate but they still don't control who invests and how much is invested. The dot coms continued to have $ thrown at them with little to no business rationale. Lots of people made millions of dollars on vaporware and a song. It was pure hype with nothing to do with accounting or business plans and as a result the bubble burst.

I think you're reacting to the recent news in accounting practices. You will find criminals in every sector of society. The market is reacting not from the misplaced financial sheets but imo emotionally. If you've followed the market as long as I have, you'd see how it's taken on its own commodity.

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), July 15, 2002.

Maria, I agree that distrust of corporate accounting is not the only major problem the markets have faced in the last 2+ years. People invested a lot of money in dot-coms which had only inane excuses for business plans, for example, as you point out.

But I think that distrust of corporate accounting is the major problem the markets are facing right now.

Yes, there are always crooks, but lax regulations have given them tremendous leeway. Arthur Andersen seems to have adopted cooking the books as a way of life. Investors are not reacting with undue emotion as you suggest, at least not IMHO. There is a real fear of what new bad news the future will bring.

Repugs = Corporations

Corporations = Criminals

Criminals = Stock Market Losses

-- (Repugs @ responsible. for stock scams), July 15, 2002.

Democraps = Liberal give-away-programs for votes

Liberal give-away-programs for votes = Increased population in the bottom feeder classes

Increased population in the bottom feeder classes = Too many niggers and beaners.

FUHGETABOUT the stock market problems and focus on the real evil that is dragging our society into the sewer.

-- ALL (liberals@must.die (or at least be eaten)), July 18, 2002.

and the recent downturn Maria, you have a nack for extreme understatement.

The Dot.com bubble burst around two years ago, it is the major corporations (a LOT of them decades old or older) that are restating earnings and going belly-up at the moment. Unless you consider Johnson and Johnson a start-up dot.com.

-- Cherri (whatever@who.cares), July 20, 2002.

Cherri, thanks once again for your rendition of "corporations bad bad". How much have you made in the stock market? Are you speaking from experience?

-- Maria (anon@ymous.com), July 23, 2002.

Cherri don’t do ‘stock markets’. Try ‘stock yards’.

-- Oink (oink@welfare.hog), July 23, 2002.

Hey, that's just fucking enough, Oink.

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 23, 2002.

Well, gee........if you say so Peter. Next time Errorton, move up a size or two in them panties.

-- Oink (oink@welfare.hog), July 23, 2002.

Well, punk, I'm not afraid to post under my own name. You wouldn't dare come out with that shit under your real name now, would you.

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 23, 2002.

Well, Mystery Man, I've been doing some thinking. I think we've met before, so to speak.

Now if you think that using the name "Errorton" will cause me to conclude that Oink is LL, you are sadly mistaken. LL and I have had many a friendly disagreement over a period of over 2 and a half years, and (it will disappoint her when I say this) I can recognize her various styles a mile away.

Something is tickling the back of my mind about you. Terry? No, that's not it. Well, I'm sure it will come to me.

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 23, 2002.

Oink = Roloboy

-- (no doubt @ about. it), July 23, 2002.

Peter, it’s that ‘thinking’ stuff that has gotten you into so much difficulty in the past. I use the ‘Errorton’ handle simply because I have seen it show up in so many other posts.

Wonder why????

As to this LL person…..can’t help you there…..don’t know who he is.

So now I’m a punk am I? Such bravado Peter. You must be quite the badass to throw that around. Lotta tough guys in Maryland I guess.

BTW, you might be the ONLY one using a ‘real name’ on this forum so does tell you anything?

Take your time.

-- Mystery Man (sign@in.please), July 24, 2002.

Mystery Man:

I make no claims to be a tremendously tough bad-ass. But I also think that someone who hides behind a name that nobody has seen before ("Oink"), and says the sort of things you do, is a cowardly punk.

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 24, 2002.

Deal with it…or not.

*sigh*

-- Mystery Man (sign@in.please), July 24, 2002.

Ah ha! We all know who says *sigh*.

-- (lars@indy.net), July 24, 2002.

Lars, don't be fooled. Yes, it's a dead-on imitation of Diane Squires, but it isn't her, trust me.

This punk has just given himself away. Ask yourself who (a) has been around long enough to know how to imitate Diane like that, and (b) is low enough to try to fool us into thinking it's Diane who's responsible for his own nasty postings.

Mr. Polly? Maybe.

Or perhaps Barry-Ra-Socrates. He's been around a long time, God knows. Think he'd be capable?

-- Peter Errington (petere7@starpower.net), July 24, 2002.

See Peter.

Wind Peter up!

See Peter run.

Most entertaining.

Peter

On reading the posts, I do believe it could be Barry aka Rational One . I haven't seen him in these parts in ages tho! He might be kinda in your face on the board, but I can assure you he truly is a kind soul in person-really! Just my two cents, FWIW.
