greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

picked a a small fridge, was goign to use it to "de" crystalize honey,, but the thing works, at least in AC. DC, I dont know yet,, its a NORCOLD brand. Doesnt run on propane,, no motor in it, so IM wondering is I could put a pilot light in it?? ANyone have any info on NORCOLD appliances? I dont know the year, but do have a model number. Since both electrics are just the heat source,, is it feasible to make it run on propane also?? any ideas on this?

Stan, I found a few sites that might be of some help. I don't know about conversions since I have a Danby propane only 8cu ft. model. From the information it looks like most Norcolds also included propane capabilities. One site has the service manuals also. Hope this helps. [url]http://www.norcold.com/mainproducts.cfm[url]

Thanks Kathy, I checked out those sites, not bad,, but doesnt cover what I have. I found a website for the manufacturer, called them up, and thought they couldnt provide me with any info, since their info doesnt go back that far, and it seems this is 40 - 50 years old, and still working. They are goping to check their archive library and see if they can find a manual for me.. I might have the oldest Norcold fridge still operating , that they know of,, not bad for 1 buck

Maybe they'll want it for their museum and give you a new one in exchange. Boy wouldn't that be something. LOL!! I didn't know they'd last that long. $1.00 what a buy!

Hey Stan! The Norcold you have is a simple thing to fix. I think you said it works on electric but not on propane? If so, a pilot light will work just fine underneath the flue tube on the backside. The heating coil is just a wrap around coil up on the tube a mite. You can take a Pilot-couple and install under it. There is no motors in any of those little dudes to make it work. It works off of heat.

I've fix'd several of'm years ago by doin the same thing. old hoot.Matt.24:44

I though the same thing Hoot,, but there is a "motor" on it. This unit is 110 or 12v , no propane. It does have a motor, no heating unit, though the momtor is only a black cylinder that HUMMMS when its plugged in. I really wnat to get the 12v system up and running,, waiting on a diagram, think IM goging ot need to rewire it, (at least),,Ill run the thing froma a solar panel

You are extremely lucky to find anything really good about Norcold, especially after 1995 when they went to 50hz compressors. I just neede to say that, the older unit s might be better but I have spent a LOT of money and time trying to get service from a Norcpld referigator. Jim
