What are the RG3 pipes ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MV Agusta F4 : One Thread

I understand these are the upgraded pipes, but do these pipes have a bronze finishing on the tips?

My 2000 model MV and Andy's 2001 original exhaust had black tips. My 2002 and Andy's new exhaust have the bronze tips.

The RG3's are the MV replacements for the original pipes. They look the same, sound much better and come with a different EFI chip. You can see them on http://www.mvagusta-sp.it/indexuk.html . If you like the original look these seem to be the preferred upgrade option. You might want to consider the headers (RG4) as well (not sure if the 2002 came with them standard or not).

Forgot to mention they are considered a "performance" upgrade so I gather they have played with the internals a bit.

What Allan is saying is that the RG3 pipes on my bike do have a lighter color than the stock ones. I can confirm this. Looks like there may have been a change in the color they were putting on ALL the pipes at some point, they seemed to have gone lighter. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Prior to our last meeting (see photos with Z3 Coupe), Andy told me he got an upgraded pipe and eprom chip. When we met, our pipes had the same bronze type finish. It made me wonder if the 2002 MVs had the RG3 or some improved exhaust, which contributed to the 8hp increase over the 2001 (135hp v. 127).

Does anyone know how the horse power increases were obtained from the 2000, 2001, and 2002 models?

The main difference of Hp from 2001 and 2002 models arise from the Mahle Pistons, a different Pipes and more important a different type and regulation of the "cammes tree" (or something like that, I am not very familiar with technical words) Definetely, it is a brand new engine.... I ask MV if it is possible to have those enchangment on my 2001 F4, but they told me that is too expensive.

FYI: Bronze or black tips are the same

The cilinder heads are modified too, valve are more right up, probably for the higher compression pistons. Yes a new cilinder head will cost you plus the other bits.
