Why did they put Rose's name on the Board roster in the Onteora graduation program? It went to press in a timely enough manner that Kathy was listed, so why should Rose be on there at all?

I bet because she served on the board during the school calendar year of the graduating class she gets to be acknowledged. Of course, I don't like her name on anything connected to the school!

I'm getting wind back in my sail...I hope to be at July 8 board meeting.

If the new board will be discussing whether to switch our "paper of record," it should be noted that the Times Herald Record did not seem to cover the Onteora graduation, at least as far as the online issue indicated.

The party sceduled for tomorrow at Anne Marie's, before the board meeting, has been postponed until the fall.

People are awar,or too busy, too pooped, too partied-out, or too - too. Let's get together in early fall. Tobe

Meeting still at 7 at the high school?

-- Anonymous, July 07, 2002

Meeting actually is at 6PM at the high school...not sure why but we have confirmed it is at 6PM...Don't be late, or you'll miss Neil's swearing-in.

I was late, came straight from shopping and couldn't stay long as I had cold things in the car rapidly defrosting, and a bag of live crickets in my tote bag for the lizards. But it was loverly seeing the new board in place. Such intelligent, vivacious, and public- spirited individuals, and Kathy jumping in right away to talk on the tax-payers' behalf. (Curry! you've shorn off those gorgeous ringlets!)

Did Marty have anything to say when he was deposed? Will Barbara Boyce get a seat on the Pink Crescent? Is Bobbi now the principal of W. Hurley? Are the Freeman and WTimes now the official papers, and was anything interesting said about that?

(I'll be off in Pennsylvania for the next 4 days, too much sun, chlorinated water, and manufactured merriment at Sesame Place and Hershey Park, so no rush needed to answer. Ted is hiking in the Adirondacks with a friend, some people are willing to be Blackfly Chow to get out of saying hello to Elmo Muppet...)

Hi everyone! I'm very curious what happened last night. It's great to know the board is in place with our people.

I stopped at Phoenicia Elementary yesterday and no one seems to know what Randy is really going to do. It seems he will return somewhere around July 17, probably give a 30 day notice, then return to North Carolina where the folks down there say he's signed a 5 year contract. Linda Sella said she'll stay on as needed during summer to help transition to "whoever", but she has plans for the fall somewhere else. Time will tell.

I must say, I've been disturbed by the way Randy Collins seems to have handled this, from the news reports -- not just for the Phoenicia school community, but it sounds as if he hasn't been straight with the other school down south either. I'm glad to see that Bobbi Schnell has been confirmed as the W. Hurley principal, and hope that will bring some stability there. During recent awards at the Onteora Middle School, and other district-wide occasions recently, it's seemed like there has been a stronger-than-average representation of former Bennett students. I wonder if this is due to having Laurie be there so long as a stabilizing influence?

Tobe, I saw the news reports about how you will be quitting your filming of the board meetings. Thank you so much for these years of commitment and hard work you've put into it. It really was something that made a difference.

Ah yes..relief for a while from taping every second. Hopefully someone (or group) will take the step and carry it on......I'm somehow not too concerned about fair play with this board!

Recent Freeman articles on the Onteora board still online:

shorter meetings

attendence policy

The dogs bark, and Tobe moves on

Reached for by telephone Friday, both former trustees limited their comments.

"If he wants to stop taping the meetings, that's his prerogative," Doan said.

"I don't really have anything nice to say about Tobe Carey, so I guess it's better left unsaid," Ostrander said.

(No Rose, when you say something gracious like that the accepted formula is "My mama said that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Then you say what you aren't saying, which says it.)

Thanks for pointing that out, Carol. It was a bothersome comment to me as well.

Thanks to Tobe for a great but thankless (from most people) job. Those tapes are priceless and maybe someday when we have lots of spare time (ha, ha...) we can put a film together and have a good laugh.

One of the things I've been appreciating with this board is that when there is laughter at a board meeting, we're laughing WITH them, not AT them.

From the Onteora Board of Ed webpage: BOARD OF EDUCATION SPECIAL MEETING TUESDAY, JULY 30, 2002

The Onteora Board of Education will hold a Special Meeting on Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at 7:00 p.m., in the Cafeteria of the Onteora Middle-Senior High School, Route 28, Boiceville, New York.

Meg says it's just a short rubber-stamp meeting, to formally get approval for some actions. Doesn't look like we will need or want to be there. I think we can trust them. ;)

Not much in the news these days but I did hear some local gossip about our favorite former board member. Seems he lost out on his attempt to wrangle ownership of the West Shokan general store from the Marzulli's with whom he was former partners. It is my understanding that Mr. Doan couldn't come up with the needed cash for a buyout and is now out of the picture. I sure hope so as it would be nice to be able to patronize a local store.

Just some more behind the scenes stuff...It seems our three losing candidates have NOT filed their expense forms from the completed campaign.

When Wendy returns, in two weeks, I'll confirm this is the case...and if so, perhaps Bill Kemble and Violet Snow would be "intersted" in a little election follow up story. doh! Tobe

Please let us hope that he doesn't start looking into the Tongore Deli, which is still up for sale.
