I've got a 10 foot long pole out back if any one wants to to touch this one! :o)

I agree with the decision but I doubt it will survive the appeals process.

No 10' pole but fireproof undies.:) I personally believe the pledge should never have included those two extra words and taking it back to the original is fine with me. Now this doesn't have anything to do with my religious beliefs,I just think that if it was good enough for all the years before the 1954 change then it's not really necessary to have it included. How many kids before 1954 said the pledge with pride & conviction in the minds & heart when 'under God' wasn't there? Reciting words doesn't foster civic pride, it's whats in a persons heart. As an example, I was raised catholic and for years recited the rosary almost daily but looking back I never really thought about the intent/content of the prayers, they were just words that I said to get it finished so I could go on to other things. I think it is probably the same for many of todays children who recite the pledge daily.

Whether they change it or not, I will continue to say "under God". As an American, I have as much right to say what I want, as they do to not say what they want. No big deal. Why take it to court, let people recite the pledge as they wish. But, let's look at this logically. All of the time, money, debate and energy spent on 2 words in a pledge, when there are so many things in this country that really need attention. As this progresses, how much time will this matter take up in the Supreme Court? Congress? The media? Us? Hey, it might even rival they OJ trial. Sheesh. We're getting to be a pitiful bunch in this country.

Bren, 10 foot pole huh? :)

I started school in 1954, so I've never known the P of A without those two words. Seems strange trying to say it "short".

Several times in the recent past, on radio, and on TV, I've listened to shows where they would go out on the street and ask randomly people to recite the P of A, or asked them questions based in the history of our country. The naturalized Americans usually knew the answers. . . . the home grown fumbled and mumbled, and. . . *ME*, . . well, I just wondered where did THEY go to school, and where did their teachers!

I can still recite the PofA, the Preamble to the Constitution, most of the Gettysburg address, sing the Battle Hymn of the Republic, a multitude of children songs and rhymes, ( all of them I think - LOL!) most of the Xmas carols, and just a potpourri of basic knowledge. The one I can never remember beyond this point: Under the spreading chestnut tree, the village blacksmith stood. . . . .? ? ? When I ask my grandchildren the simplest of historical questions, they look at me and, . . DUH? My 13 year old GD was just discussing a play in which she portrayed Daniel Boone. So I inquired of her what she had learned of DB. DUH? She had no clue. So, *I* taught her about Daniel Boone! And how many cups are in a pint, pints in a quart, and a lot of other stuff I learned when I was knee high to a grasshopper, and of which she is also clueless!

Whether kids say, "Under God" or not isn't the problem in the schools today!

I wonder what these kids DO in school all day?

There were so many activities when I went to school, and yes, many of them were "GOD" connected, like the songs in assembly, and the Xmas plays/programs, but they WERE good for us. The truth is that having GOD in my school and my social life didn't stop me from having the ability to THINK for myself. It actually gave me a foundation from which to begin my questioning, and the search for the answers that felt right to and for me.

Ohhh well.

Granny, I agree. The other day Dave and I were watching a show, can't remember what, and the question was asked...What person was President and Vice President without ever being elected? This teenage girl answered Colin Powell!!! And the rest didn't have a clue. I'm old enough to have lived through Gerald Ford's tenure, but sheesh, it wasn't that long ago for these kids not to know.
