I am looking for a photo/illust. of the old Golden Eagle Hotel in San Francisco, circa 1877. Does anyone have a source or copy?

Where was it located? This is from the 50s and, considering the populatity of that name, may not be the same hotel.

If you cruise through the SF Public Library's historical photograph collection (http://sfpl.lib.ca.us/) you can see photos sorted by date as well as street. Click on Electronic Collections, click Historical Photographs, then click on Browse Subjects or Browse Collection (depending on how you got there, one or the other will pop up).

Do not know if it helps much, but The Golden Eagle Hotel was enumerated in the 5th Ward in San Francisco's 1870 Census (I believe in an area bounded by Kearny St to the west, California St. to the North and Market St. to the southeast). Its eumeration shows up on page 16 of the 1870 Fed census for San francisco, 5th Ward.
