can you freeze cow's milk?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Dear People,

I was wondering if anyone out there knew if it was alright to freeze cow's milk or cream (before the expiration date) for later consumption?

I've had a heck of a time trying to find out and would appreciate any efforts/wisdom that would push me in the right direction..

peace, Teri Daley

teri, I freeze whole milk and cream. I live alone and don't use much milk at a time so I'd waste it if I didn't freeze it. Just make sure you leave quite a bit of head room for expansion when it's frozen. Milk will sort of seperate so it needs to be shook up after it thaws and works well in cooking.

teri, here's a website with dairy information, there's info on freezing milk. I freeze it longer than they recommend but that's just me. http://www.milk.mb.ca/Nutritin/storage.htm#KEEPING1
