greenspun.com : LUSENET : CountrySide Family : One Thread

I remember, (somewhere), that to make ice cream, you need a alrge bowl, a coffee can, ice salt, and the rest. can goes into the bowl, with ice and salt filled around it. Does anyone remember this? Whats the measurement and what are the ingrediants?? IM thinking of doing this for this weekend, and for sure on the 4th of July. maybe go pick some berries for it also,,, YUmmmmmmmmm

Are you making goats milk ice cream?? When we had a milking goat herd I made the best ice cream from their milk. But we used a old crank ice cream maker that I bought at an auction. Butter Pecan or Fresh Strawberry are my choices-what about you?

Hey, Stan. I originally posted this on Countryside on the thread "I'm screaming for Ice cream" --

Ingredients: 1 cup whole milk 1 cup heavy whipping cream 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp vanilla Pinch of salt Rock salt Crushed ice cubes Coffee cans: 1 small (12 oz) and 1 big (39 oz) with lids Optional: 1/2 cup chopped fresh fruit or whole berries 1/4 cup chopped nuts Crushed candy bars

Pour the whole milk and cream into a large bowl. Stir. Sprinkle sugar into mixture, add salt and vanilla and stir. Add fruit, nuts or crushed candy. Pour mixture into the small coffee can, leaving approx 2 inches or more space from top of can. Put on lid and tape shut. Place small can inside the large one and sprinkle about 1 1/2 cups crushed ice around the small can. Add a couple of hands full of salt. Alternate ice and salt until the large can is full. Put on lid and roll can back and forth (here's where the kids come in handy!!) for about twenty minutes! Enjoy!!

The same results can be found by useing a quart size bag for ingrediants and a gallon size bag for the salt and ice. Zip lock bags - freezer type. Did you have any luck with the sweet potatoes that was mentioned a couple of months back?
