Here's A Good One For You

I know we have a few propeller heads here in the crowd; has anyone here ever used a Spread Spectrum point to point microwave link? I'm working with a Harris Aurora system for our stations, and it's slicker than frog snot.

You basically just aim the dishes at one another, hook up the radios, and you have instant T1 or 10-base-T communications between two sites.

Of course, I'm not using it for "normal" communications; we've got to be different. (Of course.[g]) Our system provides TWO T1 equivalents, and we're going use it to squirt MPEG streams between sites.

Be interesting to see if the price comes down on this stuff in the days ahead. It ain't cheap at present ($5,000 to $10,000, depending on configuration), but it is an amazing problem solver. If you amortize it over time, it's certainly cheaper than a leased T1 from Ma Bell.

Oops. I meant to say, "Here's A Good One For You PROPELLERHEADS."

To those of you who aren't Gadget Freeks, excuse the ring. :)
