Has this place out-lived it's usefulness?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Troll-free Private Saloon : One Thread

I'm beginning to think maybe it has.

What do you think?

It was useful?

Unk:

You have done a good job, but I wouldn't worry about it. Brian [one of the people who run these places] said that the decision had been made to let greenspun.com winddown. That means you can just let it die a natural death. No need for euthanasia. Have fun and forget about it. ;<)))

Best Wishes,,,,,

It is as "useful" as you make it. Anyone is free to post whatever topic they can come up with in their wildest dreams.

It looks to me like most of the repugs just use this forum as a way to kill time while they are supposed to be working, since most of them are incapable of doing anything productive. Their favorite activity is waiting for someone to post something that is critical of their hero Dumbya, and then jump all over them and attack the messenger with childish insults. LOL!

-- (reality is @ what. you make it), June 13, 2002.

This place seems to be some folks whole reason for existence. Particularly Cherri and the Dumbya troll.

-- (sad@sad.sad), June 13, 2002.

I think the real question is have we all outlived our usefulness to you, unk?

-- (pondering@life's.questions), June 13, 2002.

"This place seems to be some folks whole reason for existence. Particularly Cherri and the Dumbya troll."

Nope, but I must admit I've been laughing my ass off watching all you idiot pugs take the bait ever since Dumbya stole the throne!

-- Dumbya troll (hee haaw @ barrel. of laughs!), June 13, 2002.

Don't worry, you can't laugh your ass off. You're all ass, in perpetuity.

I am leaving permanently. Roland has destroyed the integrity of this forum.

Could we be so lucky?

-- (cin@cin.cin), June 13, 2002.

Actually, I was hanging on hoping there would be a gathering that I could attend. I wanted to hug you all in person.

"I am leaving permanently. Roland has destroyed the integrity of this forum.

-- (BWAHAHA@roland's mother.raping)"

LOL, nice try, poser. I won't be leaving until King Idiot is impeached and executed in the electric chair. You had your 8 years, now it's our turn. Deal with it, worthless pug.

-- HEEE-HAAAAAAW!!! (keep taking my bait @ it's a blast. reeling in suckers!), June 14, 2002.

Unk, yes in sense this forum has outlived its usefulness, but in another sense it has not. It still gets several posts a day, so for those who still post here, it is obviously useful even if only to annoy.

My advice is to keep it open, but not put it on life support.

-- dr. pibb (drpibb@new.formula), June 14, 2002.

LOL, nice try, poser. I won't be leaving until King Idiot is impeached and executed in the electric chair. You had your 8 years, now it's our turn. Deal with it, worthless pug.

Democrats are people of love and compasssion. All I ever see from you is hatred. You are a despicable person of vitriol; a coward who hides behind multiple aliases. You are not a Democrat. More likely, you are a Republican troll whose objective is to cast us in a bad light.

The DNC hereby formally revokes your membership in the party of love and compassion. We demand that you cease and desist further posting to this forum or we will see you in court.

This place seems to be some folks whole reason for existence. Particularly Cherri and the Dumbya troll.

HUH? I am barely here a few minutes a week. I don't post all I could, I am now an activist, have done what I should have long ago, alerting people who can do something about it to what has been found to be wrong. Kinda like during the BJ impeachment, I figured out the unofficial emails of the members of the senate, wrote them a scorching letter, including bringing up some verifiable facts about Newt Gingrich, which a week or two later were being asked about by different Senators and the media, which ended up...well you see, or do not see where he is now. It is called being a catalyst, done it a dozen times in my life and it beets trying to convince one person at a time. This board is such a tiny part of my life it would probably shock some people *shrug* but then my "real" life is and always has been nobodies business but my own. But my troll(s) do give me a laugh once in a while. Especially when I post and never bother to go back and read the reactions.

Hey, got something new for you today, watch or not, but it will be broadcast. I will make a new post on it.

-- Cherri (whatever@who.cares), June 14, 2002.

“I am now an activist”

Stop, yer killing me here. ACTIVIST? You are a loony bimbo with no audience, unless you count the one or two other nut cases that are listening to your hateful rants.

“alerting people who can do something about it”

Who are you trying to shit dumbo? I see you have managed to ‘alert’ all of two people on your waste of a site; ‘Exposing Rightwing Corruption”

http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a.tcl?topic=Exposing%20Rightwing% 20Corruption

One person (patti) correctly calls you an idiot and the other (MaryLu) has this to say:

****I beleive, Cheri, you have way too much time on your hands....maybe you should spend some time helping the war effort instead of posting on a computer all day and night....****

WOMAN, YOU ARE A PATHETIC JOKE!!!!

-- Oink (oink@welfare.hog), June 14, 2002.

Cherri's troll strikes again.

-- (roland@hatemail.com), June 14, 2002.

"You are a loony bimbo with no audience, unless you count the one or two other nut cases that are listening to your hateful rants."

Since Oink seems to respond to everything Cherri posts, I guess he is counting himself as one of the two other nut cases.

-- heee-haaaaw! (oink@jackass.loser), June 14, 2002.

Cherri, I don't consider myself a troll but I did ask you the question below on your "The Isolationists were Right" thread and you never responded. You could have at least said "Lars, I don't care to respond" or something.

It doesn't matter to me that much but I am interested as to how and why you have morphed your views in 30 years.

BTW, in 72 I voted for McGovern (gag)

"They"? Referring to Americans as "they"? Cherri aren't you an American? Didn't you serve in America's military? Didn't you take an oath to defend America? Didn't your Dad endure the Bataan death march? And now you refer to Americans as "they"?

What's happened to you girl? I'm curious, if you'd ever care to explain how you reached you current negatvity and cynicism, I would be personally interested to know. Something bad must have happened to you.

Looks to me like you're trolling there, Lars buddy.

How can anyone read this thread and think this place has out-lived its usefulness?

-- (LOL@LOL.LOL), June 14, 2002.

OK

I was just feelin a bit down, glad to know some folks still value this joint.

-- Uncle Deedah (unkeeD@yahoo.com), June 14, 2002.

Unk,

Define "usefulness." This forum's usefulness to me is just to see what youse guys are up to. I still check in at least daily, even when I don't have time to post (as has been the case lately).

It has become like a comfortable old shoe. Believe it or not, after an especially hectic day, listening to Z talk about mushrooms and baked beans, or Helen about the mule, or Cap'n about firing up the Tiki Hut, or Anita on Lucky's latest escapades, is kindof therapeutic in an odd sort of way.

Old shoes are ugly and are only comfortable to the wearer. But if you throw them out, you DO miss them.

I'd hang on to this one until the leather truly becomes threadbare. I don't think it has, not yet.

-- Stephen (smpoole7@bellsouth.net), June 14, 2002.

helen, don't give up hope on meeting everyone. I just realized it's been a year already since Myrtle Beach (seems like yesterday). You really should plan something.

-- (cin@cin.cin), June 15, 2002.

I admit I enjoy it here, or I wouldn't come. But with so much to do, it is a place I enjoy coming to in the hopes of reading gems from Helen, Z, and others too numerous to name. I am just so busy these days I don't often have the time to go through every post. Don't close this down, I wish others would post more of the enjoyable things they do once in a while, wish they would ignore the troll(s) who try to belittle those posts, because the posts are enjoyed by so many.

Lars, I'm sorry I didn't get back and read your post. It is a good question which I will have to think about and figure out what it was, or what numbers of things that changed my ideology. That is a question that I have to look into myself and figure out.

-- Cherri (whatever@who.cares), June 15, 2002.

We need some new nutcases over here to start posting.

-- Dr. Demmocrat (cant@voteOr.spell), June 15, 2002.

Lars, I'm sorry I didn't get back and read your post. It is a good question which I will have to think about and figure out what it was, or what numbers of things that changed my ideology. That is a question that I have to look into myself and figure out.

Fair enough Cherri. People's opinions change. Yours have, mine have. I doubt if I could recall the details of my process of change. For some people though, it is not a process but a single dramatic change-event. I wondered if that was how it happened for you. As I say, for me it was a process and it continues.

-- (lars@indy.net), June 15, 2002.

Unk, I'm with Stephen on this one. There's no place like home ya know! Old friends, and old forums are something to be appreciated in this instant gratification world we live in. At least most of can come here and see a freindly face or two, when the world has gotten us down - kinda like "Cheers" only with Capn's unique brushstroke on it, kinda like "Green Acres" with Helen's slant instead, and Z is kinda like the Nature channel with a lil Emeril thrown in. Cherri keeps up on the politics from her standpoint, and Lars is always looking for new things to share! And hey, where would be without Pammy and Dog keeping the Word Association thread going (kinda like Pat Sajac and Vanna White on Wheel of Fortune)? Me, I'm mostly part of the audience these days. But I'd miss the connections if it weren't for your production (though you haven't much in common with Zero Mostel). No need to close the set just yet friend.

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), June 15, 2002.

Well said AB. I think Mr Demmocrat's point was also right-on. It would be good if we could recruit a few new voices, no matter what their views.

-- (lars@indy.net), June 15, 2002.

Are we allowed to give out the password?

-- beer for vegans (beer@for.vegans), June 15, 2002.

Not a good idea, unless you want to open the door to destructive spammers again that will destroy the forum with script tricks. Best bet is to have them mail Unk and he will make sure they have a legitimate email and ISP so they can be held responsible and blocked if necessary.

-- (don't @ ruin. it), June 15, 2002.

Open the door to destructive spammers???!!!

you mean like this?

-- you gotta be kidding me (look@around.you), June 15, 2002.

I don't see any spamming, dipshit. If you think this is destructive, you obviously weren't at the Wild Wild West. That forum was DESTROYED, literally, and that's what will happen if trash like you start letting your lowlife friends in simply because they are too lazy to get properly authorized.

-- (get@clue.dipshit), June 15, 2002.

Thank you Lars. That was kind of you. Perhaps instead of recruiting, we could get back some of the "old forum regulars" we could get back on track again. I miss so many of them here. We have all changed in the last coupla years, but perhaps they would be happy to come back to old "cyber friends". I'll e a few if you will Lars. The same goes for the rest of you forum regulars. What say you? We can get the energy of this place back up if only we try!

-- Aunt Bee (Aunt__Bee@hotmail.com), June 15, 2002.

I still don't know why Al-D never came to this forum, someone should try mailing him, wasn't it dogs@zianet.com ?

Looks like Anita got sick of putting up with the pugs. I enjoyed her discussion. Maybe they should invite her back and try to ease off on bashing her just because she has "liberal" views.

Who else is missing from the old gang?

-- (come back @ rappin. al-d), June 15, 2002.

I agree that the place should not close. Since I didn't get to go to the Blink 182 concert in Chicago this weekend with my daughter if I didn't have this place to check in on I don't know what I would do.

Would someone please post the old chat link again? I lost my bookmark in the move. It would be fun to revive the chat. We could have a rematch of one of the of the Women's Saturday Night fights. Those were the days! Right, Unk?

-- Jack Booted Thug (governmentconspiracy@NWO.com), June 15, 2002.

Pre-2000 there were many people who disagreed with each other, even different degrees of how much they dissagreed. After the rollover, I think a lot of people realized that there was more than just an arguement going on, people in opposite corners may not have had the same views, but had often come to like the person they dissagreed with.

I thought it was kinda cool the way the interaction over rode the ideas, people learned to like others for their minds, their abilities to express themselves, or just plain enjoy the company

Doesn't Anita spend some time at TB2000? Weird.

Noppers, don't think so...as evidenced by the responses to this thread.

Every Spring/Summer the board goes into a lull and then gradually peaks back up for the Fall/Winter, such is the cycle of life I reckon. Besides, it's good to have a diversity of things to engage us.

I think I speak for most when I say that the Repug/Democrap rants are FUCKING OLD AND TIRED!!! but it's easy to glance past them and give them the notice they deserve : )

It's nice to read and exchange in posts that carry a little humanity in them, everyday things that happen to us all or something that's new to learn from. Lord knows I haven't held up my end lately and I'm taking steps to correct my absentia by getting a puter rigged up in the Tiki Bar : )

Now what canal is it I take to go north, Unk? yeppers, I said the N word...aghast from the gallery ; )
