I got it! Kettle Scale Collector

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A Country Singletree : One Thread

Bren, Thank you! When I got home from town my Kettle Scale Collector was in the mail box.

This is smaller than I remember but that was 20+ years ago. Technology must have made a difference. I cleaned my kettle with vinegar to get out any deposits that might be there already. This is a new kettle so it will be a good test to see if it work as well as I remember.

I'll see if I can get a picture to post so you can see it. I wonder why things like this haven't caught on in this country? Such a simple idea and it lasts "forever".

Bren, if you knit or spin or anything like that I would be happy to send you something as a trade! I spin, raise angoras, and knit plus I have a huge stash.

Glad it got there, Susan! I've been wanting to learn to knit (I kind of have the idea, just need the practice) and I sort of crochet. The main thing keeping me from doing more of each is finding a yarn I'm comfortable using. Everything I can get locally is acrylic or has been treated with anti-moth junk. I only wear natural fibers so I'd like to use something I'd actually wear!! I've gone on-line and looked at natural yarns but then get overwhelmed by the prices and different weights, etc, etc. I'm really interested in learning how to knit socks but that looks a little daunting to me and both Gilly and I are hard on socks so I don't know if it makes sense to take the time to make something that we'll wear out quickly. So... (this was probably more info than you needed! :o) If you have something you think would work for me that would be cool!

Susan,

Its that "nostalgia factor". Everything from 20 years ago is "bigger, sweeter and better". Of course it may be smaller too. One of the first things that happens to increase profits is size reduction.
