greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Style Homesteading : One Thread

Oh my..how embarassing!! The young fellow across the road stopped by to tell me he was butchering one of his turkeys (he raises thousands) to test the fat .. and would I like it..I thought it was so nice of him to offer it...I said oh sure. Well, he will be bringing it shortly and it dawned on me...heck, I really have no idea how to fix it...it will be in pieces..Can any of you shed some light on this for me? I surely do appreciate it...and I am soooo thrilled that this forum is still working and I do enoy it. You all have a pleasant and peaceful day..

Sounds good! I'd spray a baking pan w/lid, Lay the pieces out add a couple cups of water, salt pepper, butter and back at 350 til done. If you get the innards, boil those and make noodles with the broth (esp. the gizzard-YUM) or freeze it all til you've got the nerve to try it.

Hi Sher! Cindy's recipe sounds really good. You could even throw in some veggies to cook with the turkey. Potatoes, carrots, onions etc. For a whole turkey, I used to wrap mine in foil, add a little water to a shallow pan and cook till done. Depends on the weight of the turkey. Lately, I've been using the cooking bags to cook the turkey in. Cooks em faster and seems like they're juicier. Yummm, turkey sounds good! You're making me hungry!

Oh thank you so much girls..it came in four pieces and I cut another two pieces out of it. I put these two huge breast in the shallow pan with water and foil..I put the two huge legs/thighs in a big pot to boil and then put in slow cooker..thought maybe I could use it and the broth for noodles and turkey. John said these two smaller pieces that I cut out of the breast were like pork chops kinda and that he fries them in butter like chops...what do you guys think? I have those two pieces washed and in the frig right now.

I so appreciate somewhere I can go to ask these things...thanks girls...Hope there is something I can do for you sometime...hoping you have a great day!

hee hee...Stan, that reminds me of the commercial where they're trying to find the nuggets on a chicken!

Sher...I've deep fried the thighs and legs before. Delicious!! For the breast...I cut it in half, place it breast-side down in a baking pan and cover the top with stuffing. You'll have to cover with foil to keep the stuffing from browning too quickly, though! Add some veggies like Annie said and you have a complete meal in one baking pan and not many dishes :-)!!
