Ted Lewy

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco Art : One Thread

I recently came across two framed Ted Lewy watercolors. One titled Chinatown, San Francisco and one titled California Cable, San Francisco. Both are 4x5" and are framed in an 5x7 frame. Any information would be greatly appreciated as these are charming pictures.

Thanks

I too have a signed original watercolor of the cable car in SF from Ted Lewy dated May 25, 1948. It was given to my wife's aunt who was a close friend of Lewy and it reads, "To my dear friend Gretel......"

I have no idea of the value of this work, but I can tell you that I have found that Lewy escaped from nazi Germany in 1938 and came to the US.

I have a framed watercolor by Ted Lewy 1948. Where do you go to find value of such an artwork

My grandfather was used as a model for Ted Lewy. He sketched him weaving a fishing net. This drawing ended up on postcards and many other objects. My family was never paid one dime for this. I want to find Ted Lewy. Is he still alive?????

Ted Lewy died in 1963. I have one of his actual paintings of a farm scene - a barn with a pond and two people fishing. I have several of his postcards, prints, and other collectibles. Though he was married, I heard from a postcard dealer that he was gay. Not sure though. And I don't know if he had any children. He originally came from Poland during the Nazi occupation, went to Singapore for a few years, and then went to San Francisco. His love for his city, San Francisco, is evident in his beautiful works. He also painted natural scenes from Oregon and Washington as well as several hotels and airports in the country. I think it would be a mere honor had my grandfather been painted by this artist!
