Metz v. Quantum Flash for Elan IIe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I'm looking at upgrading my flash from the 420ex that I have to a Quantum or Metz flash. I'm considering either the Metz Mecablitz 70MZ 4 or 5 as well as the Quantum T-2.

I'm no expert, but I've been shooting weddings and sports events with some success. I think that one of these flashes will add significant results to the bottom line. I just don't know which flash is best suited to my needs.

I'd like a flash that I could grow into and I think each of the three that I've mentioned accomplishes that. I've posted questions in the past and have gotten great input from the board.

Thanks in advance for all of your insight,

Rob Patrick

Why not upgrade to the 550EX ? It will give you more than any other 3rd party flash.

The 550EX is a great flash with more power than the 420EX, and will provide more features & control, but it won't have near the power of either the Metz Mecablitz 70MZ 4 or 5, or the Quantum T-2. That's why wedding photographers like them.

The question is, do they offer E-TTL (which comes with high speed sync, Flash Exposure Lock and a better metering with high contrast lighting)? Some of the Metz units do, but I don't think the T-2 does. Something to think about.

Consider the Sigma 500. One of the best flash units around for the money.
