THIS FORUM WILL CLOSE ON FRIDAY, MAY 31st.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

The new forum site at homesteadingtoday.com is now back up and running. After much thought, discussion, and deliberation, This forum will close to all postings on Friday, May 31st. We will work to quickly move the archives to another site, either here on LUSENET (if possible) or elsewhere, to ensure that they stay freely available to everyone on the net. They will be available without registration required.

The forum will continue at its new home, www.homesteadingtoday.com.

Thanks,

Are you sure the site is up? I still unable to connect.

Same here :(

-- Paul Martin (rpm44@centurytel.net), May 29, 2002.

I haven't been able to connect all day, nor just now when I tried.

Maybe some of us are just SOL since we won't register.

You should not have to register to view the site. After all you can't even register until you get there!!! I just clicked on this link and went right to it.

Chuck, will we still have access to the archives after Friday?

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), May 29, 2002.

Won't load up for me either but then it didn't load up for an extra 12 hours the last time it got a new home too. These things take some time to get fully addressed around the web I guess

Melissa, it still won't work for me. Perhaps it will for you because you are a site administrator, at least I think you have a forum.

-- Notforprint (Not@thekeyboard.com), May 29, 2002.

I do not know why it does not work. I was not even registered the first time I went on and it worked then. Try clicking the About link on the top of the screen. It is set up to direct people to the new site also. Just click it and wait a minute and see if that workd. This is unfathomaable!!!

-- Melissa in SE Ohio (me@home.net), May 29, 2002.

Nope, I still can't get anything but a message from Netscape saying they can't locate the server www.homesteadingtoday.com

Since I don't have an "About" at the top of my screen, does that mean your are using Internet Explorer and therein might be the difference since I use Netscape?

I've tried to type in the url, I've tried a cut and paste, I've tried the link, and I've tried the bookmark which I had--all to no avail.

Oh well. No loss, I'll probably just get frustrated and delete it like I did four forums last year. Cookies and registering just aren't my cup of tea. At least I've have a few more jollies here on Lusenet before it goes bye-bye.

-- Notforprint (Not@thekeyboard.com), May 29, 2002.

Okay, the "About" is on the thread page, not the submit page. Nope, it takes me to the message Netscape cannot find the server www.homesteadingtoday.com

-- Notforprint (Not@thekeyboard.com), May 29, 2002.

I guess it hasn't re-propagated around the web yet. It should be so by Friday.

While you wait for the domain name to propagate, you can still reach Homesteadingtoday by going here.

That did it.

Well I'm in Kansas and we always seem to get things a little later than the coasts. lol.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Keep trying.

-- Chuck (woah@mission4me.com), May 30, 2002.

Chuck, will we still be able to access the archives here, or is the site going to be completely shut down?

-- Cheryl in KS (cherylmccoy@rocketmail.com), May 30, 2002.

You will not be able to access them HERE, but you will be able to access them SOMEWHERE. We'll post the link here.

-- chuck in md (woah@mission4me.com), May 30, 2002.

That works - Thanks!

How fitting that the forum will be closing on Friday. Thursday is May 30th, the traditional Memorial Day.

Countryside forum, "Rest in Peace", we'll miss you like a departed loved one.

Just so Google picks up the new home, I *think* we need to have several links to the new site here for the crawler to hit???

Just in case:

Great new site, btw! Love the format.
