RFC: Survey of how numbers over 10 are selected in VCD Players

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I've been working on a new VCD plug in for a computer video player called xine. In doing so, we (the xine authors and I) would like to model the behavior of existing VCD players and the method they use in select numbers over 10 such as selecting say "chapter 21" or selecting entry "13" in a list.

The two VCD players that I am aware of have a 10+ button. So to select entry 21 you'd hit the 10+ button twice and then the number 1 entry.

How universal is this? Are there mechanisms for selecting number over 10 that do NOT use a key such as 10+?

Thanks.

What u have observed is typical but there are players where 10 and above selection is achieved by pressing the required numbers within, say, 3 sec of each other. For example to select 12 first 1 is pressed and then 2 within the next 3 secs.

The Sony DVP-PQ1 doesn't have a 10+ button. Accessing higher numbers on this machine requires hitting the right arrow button to input the second digit.
