Difference between Shen-Hao cameras (CGJ 4x5-I and HZX 4x5 IIA)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

Hello,

Besides $150 in price, what's the difference between the Shen-Hao CGJ 4x5-I and the Shen-Hao HZX 4x5 IIA? I'm interested in purchasing one of these two 4x5's but can't find out any information on how they differ.

And for one final question, will Fuji's Quickload film holder work with either of the two Shen-Hao cameras mentioned above?

Thanks for your help in advance.

This is not meant to be a "snippy" answer. The best person to answer this question is Jeff at Badger Graphics. He is the expert here in the U.S.

The CGJ has no rear raise, rear base tilt only, non-interchangeable bellows. Yes the QuickLoad, ReadyLoad, and Polariod holders will work on either camera.

I just bought a Shen-Hao HZX 4x5 from Badger Graphic. I am not sure of the differences between cameras but I know the HZX has more more movements. It will take Fuji's quickload as well as polaroid backs. When I opened the box and started checking the camera I was impressed with the woodwork and the finish on the teak. Very well done. I recommend it if you are on a budget and want to spend the money on lenses.

Go to

This is a scan of their brochure. Down on the bottom is a table comparing the two 4x5 models.

In short, the HZX model gives you 11mm more rear shift, the 40mm rear rise, and rear center tilt (+/- 10 degrees).

I think the Shen Hao is about the best bang-for-the-buck camera out there. It's not perfect, but it's not too bad.

The URL that Dave W. gave is correct, but an extra space crept into it. Hopefully, the following will be correct: http://www.ai.sri.com/~luong/photo graphy/lf/cameras/shenhao/shenghao2.jpg.

Well, the one that you can see is incorrect (I thought that I fixed it. I must need more sugar.), but if you click on it you will be taken to the right page (I fixed that one!). So much for this newfangled Internet doo-hickey.

Thanks for the URL, Dave.
