EOS 300 (rebel 2000) Frame Counter

I bought some Plus-x aerocon film on e-bay a while back -- 200' of it. It is aerial photography film with extended red sensitivity that gives pretty good negs when developed as plus-x. The great thing is that it is on a very thin base and I can load 72 exposures in a can. This worked great in my Cannon AE-1 Program, but that body bit the dust recently. I bought an EOS 300 (European Model of the Rebel 2000). Works great except for my long rolls. The camera empties the can of film and puts it back in as it is exposed. The camera took out the whole 72 exposures, but only let me take 38 exposures before it sucked the whole thing back into the can. I now have 38 exposures with a 34 exposure length of film as a leader.

Does anyone know how to defeat the frame counting to allow me to use the entire long roll or somehow work around the problem? Thanks.
