Extension tubes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am in the market for some extension tubes. Since they are essentially open air spacers is there any benefit to buying Canon's extension tubes versus the Kenco offering? Thanks, Bob

Tubes function as open air spacers, but some 25mm extension tubes have electronics:
Inside a Kenko 25mm extension tube

Others, like my Kenko set-of-3 extension tubes (12, 20, 36) only have a dull-shiny plastic baffle and straight-through electrical (not electronic) connections.

The Canon Extension tubes are much better made - with better anti-reflection control, nicer machining of the lens and camera mount, albeit at a higher price.

Overall, there is NO real benefit to the Canon tubes over the Kenko tubes.

I have Canon extension tube EF12 and Kenko set (12, 20, 36). I found Canon 12 and Kenko 12 is identical except for "Canon" mark and color of lens release lever. Canon EF12 should be made by Kenko.

I agree with Lee, Canon tube has no real benefit over Kenko tubes.
