Electrostatic air cleaner to control dust

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Film & Processing : One Thread

Having bought a heavy-duty air cleaner (asthma in the family), it occurred to me that I could run it in the laundry room/darkroom while developing and drying film. It's a Friedrich electrostatic model. and the Consumer Reports review adds a side note that electrostatic air cleaners sometimes cause dust to stick to walls.

Has anyone had experience drying film in a room with an electrostatic air cleaner running?

Is this what is often termed an "Ioniser"? I have often thought of using one of these, and would be interested in knowing how well that would work...

The dust particles floating in the air are charged (that is what makes them float). This device gives them a negative charge, making them stick on the walls and floor. It works fine. Combined with an air filter, it can clean the air from dust in a small room quite effectively. Large rooms need more such devices, generally.
