What's this about a home plan?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

The latest letter I have received from the Halifax includes the following paragraph:

I note, from checking your file, that you hold a Halifax Life Home Plan which was taken out in conjunction with the mortgage. The roll number for this account is **/*******-*. Please contact Halifax life to establish whether there is a surrender value and, if so, the amount.

Is it a trick? I have lost all papers from the time I took the mortgage out.

If you are trying to avoid the Halifax, then obviously do not respond. Do you owe them money? Do they already know where you are living? ie have you responded to them at all? If the answer is no then be careful, perhaps get a private PO Box number first, if you have been in contact with then - then you have nothing to lose.

This is out and out guile,if you did have a policy assigned to the mortgage the lender owns it and is entitled to any proceeds under it.they would surrender any policy and keep, the proceeds legally if you owed money.Pathetic really are n't they?

Colin, the Lender is probably entitled to the proceeds of the Plan upon your default on the Mortgage Terms and Conditions. Your response will depend on what Julie has said, of course.
