Jay you may have to recatagorize this, we do not seem to have a women's issues catagory.

This is aimed toward the women here and I expect to get some smartass remarks from the guys, thats okay!! ANY constructive answers would be appreciated. This may be long so bare with me, please.

As some of you know I am getting into the living history/reinactment stuff. In particular the mid-1700's to the mid 1800's, the fur trade, voyager era. Many women in those days didn't shave. Well there is no way I can let my armpit hair grow, sorry too gross for me. But, I do have friedns who don't shave and it doesn't bother me, in fact it doesn't look bad on them. Anyway, I have for many years now, wanted to stop shaving my legs. I remember my mother teling me never to begin because I would be sorry. What do teenagers know! All I cared about at the time was being like everyone else. I was a late bloomer so it didn't make my life at the time easier. NOW, I wish I had headed mymothers words. I am NOT a hairy person. MY legs have a patterened baldness to them, if such a thing exists on legs. Mostly hair down the front and mostly on the bottom. It isn't dark hair, not Italian dark but it isn't blond either. I know if you wax your legs the hair comes back soft and doesn't have that harsh sharp edge to it. I haven't shaved my legs in a month or more and it is getting long, maybe a 1/4 of an inch or so.

Here is my question. Is there a home remady way to wax your legs? Do I have to buy one of those kits? Have any of you women done this? Would I be better off making an appointment with a salon to have them do it? I think I remember trying this once and it didn't work. Someone told me you have to let the hair grow really long first. And I have been told it HURTS! Any ideas?

There was a post on the old forum that addressed this from the point of facial hair removal, gave a cheap chemical way to remove hair, better than nair(sp) so they stated. Know that there are chemical way to do it, they use in hospitals before surgery.

Guys shave too sometimes. I knew a police officer who detested shaving to his collar bone for a regulation shave due to skin irritation and his wife mixed a combination of sugarwater and parrifin to remove the hair from his upper chest. Of curse, I am aware that male chest hair is not as course as female leg hair .

What about ripping it out with duct tape? Be safer than a blowtorch and if you schedule the procedure with the full moon, neighbors will think its just a critter in the woods :>)

Sugaring is similar to waxing and you can make the formula at home. You can find step-by-step instructions at www.budget101.com Scroll down the left-hand frame and click on "For the Ladies" I haven't tried it so I don't know how it works.

There's been a lot of ads on TV lately for a body lotion that's supposed to make your leg hair finer and less noticeable so you don't have to shave as often. Haven't tried that yet either.
