Strange Days, indeed!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I am curious as to whether folks like the new forum and all of it's attributes or whether everyone prefers this? Please try to go a little bit beyond the newness and resistance to change that we all feel towards things at first. Should this be the main board, going back to public when Stan is back on his meds, or should we stay mainly at the new forum site?

I'm also a bit miffed that whomever it was decided to skank this forum's name to put it up on open forums as a redirect to another Cside offshoot. It's dishonest and whomever it was certainly could have emailed me and asked instead of simply copping an identity. there's my gripe--I'm done:).

I look forward to your opinions.

I like the lusenet forums but if they are going down eventually perhaps it would be best just to go ahead to the new one. Also, the new one seems to be "safer".

Hi Doreen,

I am trying to get use to the new forum. Am able now to make my way around there but I still prefer the Lusenet set-up. Simple just seems better to me. I don't care about being able to use pictures and graphics and such, just like the way posts come up quickly at Lucenet without such a wait.

I had the new site (homesteadingtodayindex) saved in my "favorites" but it will no longer connect from there. Could someone please post the address so I can type it in? Thanks.

-- Terry - NW Ohio (aunt_tm@hotmail.com), May 15, 2002.

Definately prefer the new site. Not because of the graphics, though they are nice, but because of the search features and the ability to better determine new postings. Saves time for me.

And I'd be willing to guess as to who scarfed the Freedom name to further his own ends. Same as Melissa's forum, too.

I vote for lusenet. the new forum just seems like they all run together. But I would continue reading ether way.

Thomas Wolfe said "you can't go home again" and he was correct. The babies have taken over the sandbox here at Lusenet and I believe that any attempt to regain sanity will result in more temper tantrums from the diaper set. Stan is not alone, he now has a few whacko buddies. The new site is OK, yet all the forums seem to run together and lose their individuality, IMHO. Perhaps it is just me...I think that this site will eventually have to close since Lusenet will either go down or become a pay site...Stan and his ilk have zero respect for how anyone else feels about anything...my vote would be to say adios, it's been fun.

-- lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), May 16, 2002.

I prefer lucenet, loads faster and we have autonomy. I think there are people posting on stan's site that want to see a homestead board stay here and it has nothing to do with approving or his horrific actions. I posted on one of his before I even knew that it was his. I can assure you lesley I am no "wacho" who approves of his actions. The one I posted on quite a bit yesterday was his and I didn't even know it. (I found out today because rick e-mailed me and my mailbox had failure to deliver notices in it) I was searching around for a homesteading board here because I can't make the other one work very well and it seems like a HUGE city to me. I guess it is all in what you are after. I would much rather pay here and keep this format.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), May 16, 2002.

Diane, of course I wasn't refering to you or any others who just prefer Lusenet..I was referring to the folks who KNOW what Stan did and stuck up for him verbally and continue to do so, as well as assist him in computer-raiding, etc.

-- lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), May 16, 2002.

thanks for the clarification Lesley.........been kind of smarting over it all day :>( Rick chewed me out big time and I have decided I am DONE with open forums. Just too much wacky stuff going on. If Doreen keeps this one going here, fine.....and I like the Christian site. I had really thought I would do Phil's forum, but even that just seems so open to attack. Sorry for the stuff on LBF's forum Doreen. Just gets to be too much for my little mind to grasp. hugs

Hey Terry- try this Homesteading Today

I don't know folks. If I keep this one going it seems that there are very few people who will come and do the password thing, but I seriously don't have the time to moderate two boards. Certainly not a troll bait board. I didn't want to go password, but there wasn't much of a choice as I wasn't going to just sit there and take a whole load of crap for no good reason. I feel really bad about all of this and rather feel like I just want to quit these forums altogether. Auuugggh.

Diane- it's okay. I appreciate the hugs, tho'!

Guess I will sit on this and see what transpires after some more prayer. Thanks all of you!

Thank you for the address Doreen - I somehow had already figured it out because I made it there - not sure how though. Weird, all these forums here and there now until I don't know if I'm coming or going checking them all :-).

-- Terry - NW Ohio (aunt_tm@hotmail.com), May 16, 2002.

I prefer Lusenet, I like the simplicity and don't mind passwords. But there's some good stuff on the other. Sure wish I could do more than add the smiley faces.

Hey Doreen, I think you should do what ever you feel that the Lord leads you to do. I have been to the new site yesterday, and it does load for me now. I most likely will not participate, or even lurk for that matter and it has nothing to do with anyone or anything but just me and wanting to get some sanity back in my life. These forums have become an addiction and obsession for me and I am going to refocus my life, particularly for the summer. I do not expect I will ever move to the new site..........just way to strange and city like. Wishing God's most special blessings to you. love yah......diane

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), May 18, 2002.

Sanity!!?!?!?!?!?! I think I remember hearing about that once somewhere ---in the distant past---Sounded nice:)- I understand what you are saying Diane. I feel very much the same, actually. in a way I kind of feel like that bumper sticker

"Chaos. Confusion....My work here is done."

On a serious note, I felt called to be an eyeopener, and to point out many of these not so pleasant things that we all really wish didn't exist, but I may have finished my mission. That's what I am praying about.

I believe that if your eyes aren't at least open now, that there is no help I can offer anyone. Not that everyone has to agree with me- But there ought to be some niggling suspiscion that causes you to want to ferret out the truth for yourself by now.....Still don't know. I think the archives here are important, so I may put it up as open with no posting, and do a maintainance thread to keep it up there a few times per week.

What do you folks think of that idea?

-- Doreen (bisquit@here.com), May 18, 2002.

I'm afraid this ain't going to work!

Hi Doreen and thanks for this site..for however long it lasts. I lurk here alot..I just do not post much. I love some of the topics that are brought up here. I, myself, would rather stay on lusenet. I do not like trying to read the other site with all the distractions ..ie little faces..everyone feeling they have to post their favorite pet and their own pics..its just not for me. I just wanna be able to post my many questions...and I just wanna be able to read easily and quickly what info is on here. I am a webtv user..this lusenet loads so much faster..and I believe that the more pics and bells and whistles that the other site puts up..the longer it will take me to load them.

I LOVE SIMPLICITY!! So .. for however long this lasts thanks Doreen..sorry so many have to suffer for so few.

Sis Doreen! I like this site too. I seldom post but if it stays on Lusent I imagine that will change a bunch. I tried the new site and it's a dandy. Problem is-I'm and old dog, puter stoopid and the print is just too small for me to read easily. I think Chuck has done a great job with the new site. Sometimes it's best to leave us old sleepin dogs lie!

If you decided to shut this site down I'll just move over to the new one. I'll probably keep checkin in on it anyhoo. old hoot. Matt.24:44

Doreen,

I love your stuff. I am glad that at the new site I can see what people got for sale, hear what folks in your neck of the woods need to tell me, and still find out what's wrong the chicken.

It is citified yes. But if we are gonna share the knowledge that we all so desperatley need in these ever more troubling times, at least we can do it quick and efficiantly and get outside to put it to use.

I hadn't participated or even had a chance to read this, barter board, crafting, etc. for not enough time to go back and forth. Now I can, and I have learned a lot from you guys already!

Thanks, doreen. Don't give up. Some of us are just finding what you've started...
