Year 2000 consequence management

-- (For@the.historians), May 21, 2002.

It was not only a message about a possible clamity which was possible with the turn of the Century. We are told each century turning had it's share of doom-sayers. And we watched when the midnight hour struck at 1999/2000, and wondered how the lights stayed on. I still wonder. How could not these same computer experts, if they were so sure of everything being status-quo, could not foresee the demise of the Twin Towers? and the Pentagon? and all the problemtics of the incompatibility of each programs, slowing progress of themselves. Now, you are advised of the fragility of your own neighborhood water supply. Now, you are advised from the news, to check out your neighbor, for fear they may plant a bomb. That is Hog-wash. Maybe you are wishing you had moved out to a farm. Too late, all the Farms are taken, by those you dismissed. Think, we were all stupid? 7- 11's don't stand a chance against what's his name, and the nightly terror news. Don't believe all you see, on the TV screen. What Did Steve say? "if you live near a 7-11, you are toast". I say, I have a manual Well, we don't have to worry about Water, as long as the Water Lasts. In JESUS NAME.

I think someone is misunderstanding what the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion meant when that group gave its RETROSPECTIVE ON THE MAGNITUDE OF THE PROBLEM in its final report. No one is saying there were a lot of computer problems on January 1, 2000. "Retrospective on the Magnitude of the Problem" is about whether "the significant investment of time and money to avoid disruptions was necessary."

Something else often overlooked is that many of those on this forum who suggested being prepared for whatever might happen in January 2000 were not just concerned about computer problems. In 1999, as there is now, there was concern about terrorism. Being prepared for the unexpected is prudent.

The topic on this thread seems to be the final report of the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion. Care to add any of your own comments?

I love this shit. 2 1/2 f'in years after a big f'in hoax is shot down, idiots are still trying to blame somebody. the welfare hoards piss-n-moan when .guv don't send my free money on time, but bitch even louder when they get fooled by so-called comp experts into thinking doom was around the corner. didn't happen so now the clueless .gov must be to blame!

yeesh!
