Identifying Photograph - Herring's Mill

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I have a photograph of Herring's Mill which belonged to Richard Herring d 20 October 1913 at 666-6th Ave, San Francisco. The photograph shows the end of an elevated peaked roof building with stacks ocut timber on a loading dock. The numbers 557, 559 and 561 appear on the end of the building. I presume these to be street numbers i.e. the building was on three blocks. How can I identify the location of this building?

The 1923 Phone Directory lists Herring's Mill at 557 Brannan.

The numbers you have are lot numbers. I assume the 666 6th Avenue is his residence which would put it in the Richmond District near Golden Gate Park.

Good luck in your research.
