Filter size!

Hi

I have a 70-200mm F4 lens which takes 67mm filter. I just got it and planning to buy few filters for the same. I have also plans to buy 16-35 F2.8 and 28-70 F2.8 in the near future but not immediately. These lenses take 77mm filter. I have decided to buy 77mm filter and a step down ring from 77-67 so that I can use it on my 70-200 F4 also. Now my question is: can I use the 77mm filter on 70-200 F4 while keeping the lens hood?

Regards John

I haven't tried it but my ET-74 hood has about 12mm of clearance beyond the outside diameter of the barrel, so it might work. However, you'll need really long fingers if you plan to reach in and turn a polarizer (I can do it on my EF28-135 IS USM).

No, you can't use 77mm filter with ET-74 hood. Last 2 digits means diameter in mm of hood attachment scheme, so ET-74 has 74mm hole for the lens attachment. Diameter of 77mm filter is generally around 80mm.

Option A) Switch to 70-200/2.8 (IS or not) and you have all lenses in the same filter size. Option B) Buy another filter set.
